A bike tour for wine lovers: While a thorough tasting of the fine wines should only begin at the end of the tour, a glass during the lunch break is certainly in order.
This wine-filled tour begins in Volkach at the campervan site near the new Main bridge and initially leads to the other side of the Main River. Via Astheim, a vineyard path leads up to Vogelsburg Castle. From there, you can enjoy a wonderful view of the Main River loop!
Along the famous Escherndorfer Lump vineyard, past Escherndorf and Köhler, you reach the second longer climb, which leads through vineyards up to Neuses am Berg. At the top, through fields and meadows, you then reach Dettelbach. The pilgrimage church of Maria im Sand can be seen from afar. The Culture and Communication Center (KuK) with its wine shop and "Pilgrims and Pilgrims" museum is also worth a visit!
From Dettelbach, you cycle to the Main River and cross it shortly before Schwarzach. Those who don't wish to visit Münsterschwarzach Abbey should simply follow the signs towards Sommerach. This picturesque wine village marks the entrance to the wine region, where, in addition to Sommerach, Nordheim also invites visitors to stop for a wine-filled break. From there, it's another 5 kilometers to the end of the tour in Volkach.

This route was planned by komoot.
Since yesterday was a holiday here and we'd rather have gone to the wine festival at 37°C, we still had to get some provisions before the weekend. So the morning wore on, starting with a relaxed breakfast. Since it was supposed to be "cooler" today, we weren't feeling so pressured. But then it was lunchtime in a flash, and the thermometer was back at 30°C. There was no shade at the campsite and it was unbearable 🥵, as we were looking for alternatives for cycling. But some people run a half marathon there 😉💪 (best wishes to @Deleted User ) and then we hopped on our bikes with the motto "If possible, don't stop because of the wind." At only 40km, it was a relaxed ride and we passed through very pretty little villages. We met a nice couple of bikers who, like us, were struggling up the vineyards to then enjoy a fantastic view 😊.
Today with my loved one I cycled the Volkacher Mainschleife with various intermediate stations. Such a beautiful area, sensational 🤗🤗🤗
A recommendation that I found on Komoot. Good route guidance - because the signage was not always immediately recognizable. And the view from the Vogelsburg - simply sensational!!
Since my husband was also free today, we loaded the 🚲🚲 on the 🚙 and drove to a bike corner that was unknown to us. We wanted to go to the Main 🏞️. I now know why the route is called Mainschleife: it loops around the Main...Conclusion: if you want to cycle AM Main, you shouldn't ride this loop. In Volkach we are at least a few more kilometers to the Main so that we didn't just cross it a few times 🤣
For my first bike tour in the Franconian wine country, I chose the "Volkacher Mainschleife" cycle tour from the Franconian wine country's website. This tour is a tip for cycling and wine fans, because it offers both cycling fun and wine - vines as far as the eye can see! I changed my bike tour a little, the starting point for me was Sommerach on the wine island and not Volkach, as stated in the tour suggestion. The bike tour for wine lovers leads through the well-known wine towns and vineyards along the Main and the cyclist is repeatedly treated to beautiful views of the Main and the surrounding vineyards. Special highlights of this tour include the Münsterschwarzach Abbey (one of the most important Benedictine monasteries in Germany), the wine town of Escherndorf (known for the famous "Escherndorfer Lump" vineyard) and the Terroir F wine information point near Vogelsburg. The tour can of course be extended, e.g. by visiting Volkach's old town and/or the 360° panoramic platform on top of the wine island. Although I'm not a wine drinker, I really enjoyed the tour through this beautiful wine region and got my money's worth in terms of enjoyment. For those who come later: You should plan enough time for the Volkacher Mainschleife cycle tour to be able to enjoy the many viewpoints, the panorama and the good food and Franconian wine in the towns - it's worth it.
Pleasure tour around the wine island. It wasn't about sport, it was about enjoyment. Accordingly, we often took a break to explore the villages and their gastronomy. Sommerach, Dettelbach, Köhler, Escherndorf, Volkach, Nordheim etc. So the area of the "wine island" https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weininsel
Beautiful bike tour along the Main loop with a fantastic view of the Main and the towns of Escherndorf, Nordheim and Sommerach.
