Hiking
The hike takes you through the Breggia Gorge Park, which is located in the lower Muggio Valley and stretches along the river of the same name. Along the way, you will immerse yourself in the 200 million year old geological and 2,000 year old human history of the valley.
It starts on the hill of Castel San Pietro, where you can visit the 14th century Chiesa Rossa (Red Church) right at the beginning. You then hike to Punt da Canaa, where you reach the river and can see interesting formations of flint limestone, the oldest marine deposits in the park. From here you follow the Breggia south. The further you go, the more clay and fossils (ammonites) there are.
At the "Prato delle Streghe" (Witches' Meadow) there is a rest area with a barbecue area for a break. The route then takes you over the "Ponte del Diavolo" or "Devil's Bridge", from which you have a breathtaking view of the gorge. You then continue walking along the river, partly on wooden galleries attached to the rock walls. Finally, you pass the former Saceba cement factory and follow the Breggia to the Ghitello mill, where you reach the end of the hike.
