"The Mummelsee-Hornisgrindepfad combines numerous highlights on a charming, sometimes challenging route. In addition to grandiose Black Forest views, the Grindenpfad and the Bohlenweg through the high moor, the legendary Mummelsee in particular is an outstanding highlight. In addition, the Hornisgrinde lookout tower, the smaller Bismarck tower and the Dreifürstenstein were given further attractions. 3 nice rest stops with regional specialties." Source: https://www.schwarzwald-tourismus.info/touren/seebach-geniesserpfad-mummelsee-hornisgrindepfad-349012b297 Experience score: 90 points, 52% narrow paths/paths; 6.7 km route; 272 meters of altitude Source: https://www.wanderinstitut.de/premiumwege/baden-wuerttemberg/mummelsee-hornisgrindepfad/ The classic in the northern Black Forest, once without much effort on the highest mountain in the northern Black Forest. The path from Seibelseckle to Mummelsee is rather unspectacular. It is beautiful around the Mummelsee, but extremely crowded when the weather is nice (and especially at the weekend). From the Hornisgrinde you have a beautiful view and the way back to the Seibelseckle is technically the finest. If you thought I'd end my Black Forest vacation 🌲 with such a measly castle tour 🏰 (Who likes boring old ruins? 🥱)... well, you were completely wrong 😉. The Mummelsee-Hornisgrinde Trail was too far away for a day trip, but as a special pee-break deluxe tour 😎 and a perfect way to end the day 👌, even though it was clear I wouldn't be completely alone on the holiday 😏. The journey from Schramberg through many small valleys 🏞 and finally onto the Black Forest High Road at over 1000 meters was truly amazing 🤩, and my only fear of not finding a free parking space 🅿️ (all free, by the way 👍) proved unfounded thanks to the plentiful options. Right from the parking lot, I already had a beautiful view 👁🤩 of the Black Forest 🌲 and the lowlands, but it was about to get even better. I headed clockwise on wide paths, heading downhill for quite a bit ↘️, but only to gain enough momentum for the ascent ↗️ on the Schwabenweg. The challenging trail leads over lots of sticks 🪵, large and small stones 🪨, and even a bit of boulder terrain. It was actually great, but here it became apparent for the first time that the whole family 👨👩👧👧, including grandma 👵 and dog 🐕, was out for the holiday. So I had to push my way through to keep up the pace. Once at the top, I walked along a fantastic boardwalk 😍 🫶 through, or rather over, the moor 🌿, with beautiful views into the distance and the moor landscape itself 👁👌, before reaching the small Bismarck Tower Hornisgrinde 🗼. After a bit of queuing 😄, there was finally room for me at the top, and even though the view wasn't clear, the haze 🌫, sun 🌞, and clouds ☁️ over the lowlands created a wonderful, mystical masterpiece 🖼 😍. The following, the larger Hornisgrinde Tower 🗼, was already closed, but given the current activity, I probably wouldn't have bothered to visit it anyway 🫣. So I slowly descended on less steep and easier paths ↘️ and finally reached the last highlight of the tour: the lovely little Mummelsee 🌊 practically right next to the parking lot. The obligatory circumnavigation ♻️ was, of course, a must, where I encountered all sorts of nationalities (probably thanks to Instagram 🤳) and hikers who weren't mountaineering 👠👩🦼🩴🤿. However, there was also a completely selfish and disrespectful group on the trail, blasting the entire lake with their subwoofer 🔊 😡. I'll never understand that... Back at the car 🚗, I truly ended my Black Forest vacation 🌲 and this special pee break deluxe tour 😎 and continued my journey to my new accommodation in Neckarsteinach. You'll find out what I want there in the next tour 😉.
The Mummelsee-Hornisgrinde Trail combines numerous highlights on a charming, at times challenging, route. In addition to magnificent Black Forest views, the Grinden Trail, and the boardwalk through the raised moor, the legendary Mummelsee Lake is a particular highlight. Other attractions include the Hornisgrinde Observation Tower, the smaller Bismarck Tower, and the Dreifürstenstein Rock. Three lovely places to stop for refreshments with regional specialties.
I was really in the mood for a sunrise again. According to the weather app, a sunrise would have been possible from my usual spot (Hohes Horn), but I didn't want to risk it not being bright enough. So I decided to go a little higher up. The Mummelsee - Hornisgrinde trail seemed like the perfect option. I hadn't been up there in a while. And the drive was rewarded with a fantastic sunrise and a view all the way to the Alps. There was only one other couple and me at the Bismarck Tower. That was still manageable. I had expected more people. Starting point for an Enduro Black Forest tour through the great landscape 🌳🌳🌲 Nowhere is the Black Forest so rustic and expansive. BUT the trails are also extreme and partly consistently S3.💪 Currently snow again and a summer project
Today was departure in Bad Peterstal-Griesbach, but there was still a tour waiting for us on the way home along the Black Forest High Road.😊 We parked at the Seibelseckle car park and then we went steeply uphill on an alpine, very stony path. We started sweating a lot🥵, but then we made it at the Dreifürstenstein, border marking of 1722 from Baden, Würtenberg and Strasbourg. From here the boardwalk begins through the protected high moor on the 2km long mountain plateau of 1164 m above sea level. NHN high Hornisgrinde. It is therefore the highest mountain in the northern Black Forest. Well... I love boardwalks like this and then this panorama, just wonderful. Here you can look into the beaver basin, a depression formed by glaciers, which used to contain a karst lake similar to the Mummelsee. There are a few towers up here, including radio masts of various sizes that have been set up towards the Kleine Grinde. After this detour we came to the Bismarck Tower, an old survey tower that can be climbed. We continued across the plateau to the Grinde Hütte and the Hornisgrindeturm built in 1910, which unfortunately had closed due to construction work. At the hut there was a rest with a view far into the Rhine plain and you could also see the Vosges. The temperatures up here were very pleasant and some used the deckchairs to relax. The destination also seems to be popular with mountain bikers... On a beautiful path made of sandstone boulders, we went down to the viewpoint of the Mummelsee with a hotel. Arriving at the bottom, we sat on the stones and took a footbath in the cool water. So it was refreshed to walk around the lake and visit the mermaid. Now we went across the street and below it back to the parking lot. A look at the ski slope, which can probably only be used for a few days in winter, made me a little sad 😞.
Today we went on the Black Forest High Road 💓 First stop Mummelsee. Parking is free. Once around the Mummelsee and over the Hornisrinde path to the Hornisrinde. Small picnic on the Hornisrinde. Through the raised moor over the gourmet path to the exit. Beautiful circular hike with great passages and views. 💞🌞💓🌄🌞
There's a lot going on here at Mummelsee and the surrounding area. As a start to a spontaneous weekend in the Black Forest, you can get in the mood for all the typical export hits here.
