Roman Spring Wassenach

Highlight • Natural Monument

The Römerbrunnen is a sour spring. There is a very well-kept rest area here. You can see the CO₂ coming out of the volcanic rock. This phenomenon can also be observed in Lake Laach.

The route is beautiful. But also very well-known and popular.

It's best to take a day off and enjoy it during the week.

Trail Reviews

Long planned, today it worked. Beautiful tour over fields, dense forests and a gorge with caves and high cliffs. Good places to rest, absolutely recommendable.

Very beautiful and varied dream trail hike. Recommendation: start early. When we parked at 9:15 a.m., there were only 2 cars in the parking lot and we had the path almost to ourselves. When we left shortly after 12 p.m., the parking lot was full and we were eagerly awaiting our parking space.

A very beautiful, idyllic autumn tour in summer temperatures. Valuable landscape, varied, simply Eifel.

Very well signposted. In summer, the path was temporarily closed due to an Asian hornet nest. There is a sign along the way indicating the location of the nest. The only refreshment stops along the hike were closed. Afterwards, we stopped at the Vulkan Brewery for venison goulash, hunter's schnitzel, and Vulkan beer.

A very nice and recommendable tour😃. It is varied, and leads first over fields and meadows with a great view, then through shady forests and valleys, along streams, back up to lookout points. Then it goes back down to the Trass caves (my personal highlight), and then through the wild, romantic Wolfsschlucht, a beautiful waterfall. Then again steadily up to the starting point. I was so excited again😊 that I couldn't stop myself taking photos ....

Instead of starting from the parking lot on the mountain, I started at the parking lot at Jägerheim (Station 5). Except for the last very steep descent, the tour is suitable for all fitness levels - but if you have knee problems, you should better plan differently.

The later in the day, the shorter the round...or something like that😉🤓. The round only started at 2pm and it was still a really nice one. 🤩

Today I met up with my mom and Doris at the Bergwege hiking car park, just outside the village of Kell on the K 57. We started our hike there, the Traumpfad Hoehlen- und Schluchtensteig. A detailed description of the hike (circular tour) can be found on the Traumpfade Rhein-Mosel-Eifel-Land website; Traumpfad Hoehlen- und Schluchtensteig Kell (https://tourenportal.traumpfade.info/de/tour/wanderung/traumpfad-hoehlen-und-schluchtensteig-kell/1519452/). The tour has a lot to offer that hikers' hearts desire. There are wide meadow paths, farm roads, forest paths and some very easy to walk "paths". The majority of the paths consist of natural ground. The road crossings are paved sections, which unfortunately cannot be avoided. In one section, the traffic on the road was also clearly audible. Since it was only a short section, that didn't bother us too much. The path through the Trasshöhlen is very interesting. About two-thirds of the path is in the forest. Perfect for a hike in summer temperatures. The hike through the forest, with a dense canopy of leaves and suddenly a wide view, is a dream. Crossing the water on small bridges and exposed roots of still standing trees, caves that you walk through, a waterfall, many very well-maintained benches for resting and relaxing, as well as helpful information boards along the way. There is a lot of variety here. A great hike and this round deserves the name "dream path". It was a lot of fun walking this path and I would happily hike this path again.
