Hiking

This Tour in Stone Mountain Park in the northern Rocky Mountains is a combination of three different trails. You can warm up with a loop that incorporates the Summit Lake Trail and the Microwave Tower Trail, then head up the Summit Peak Trail to enjoy the spectacular landscape from above.

The Tour starts at the Summit Lake Provincial Campground car park, just off the Alaska Highway. Follow the path through the pine forest along the turquoise-blue Summit Lake, before turning back to the starting point along the Microwave Tower Trail. The views of the lake and the surrounding mountains are breathtaking.

Now you can tackle the ascent, a climb of almost 700 metres (2,300 ft) along the Summit Peak Trail to a magnificent viewpoint over the peaks and the valley. You’ll need a reasonably good level of fitness to complete the hike, and the rocky trail is best tackled with hiking boots.
