Road cycling

On this circular route that runs through the westernmost part of the Gavarres massif, you ascend to the top of the mountain to visit the sanctuary of the Mare de Déu dels Àngels, where you can delight in the views that this beautiful place has in store for you. In addition, you have the opportunity to see medieval villages first-hand that will surely transport you back in time.

The route covers a total of about 53 kilometres and around 650 metres of positive gradient, presenting a considerable physical challenge. However, the effort invested is amply rewarded with an experience rich in landscapes and culture. Most of the journey takes place on quiet roads, easy to navigate and with little traffic. However, it is important to bear in mind that, during public holidays, the road to the sanctuary may be busier with vehicles. In addition, the route includes sections of compact dirt roads.

You can enjoy this route all year round, although it is important to bear in mind that in winter the mountain section can be cold and you may encounter fog, especially in the early hours of the morning. For this reason, we recommend that you bring a thermal layer and, perhaps, a raincoat.

Girona

Highlight • Settlement

They say that Girona is the real capital of Catalonia. It is a cycling destination par excellence. In addition, it is symbolically a bridge for the start and end of routes that take you to dream places, mid-mountain (Gavarres), the coast (Costa Brava and Empordà), Mountain and high Mountain (Garrotxa, Ripollés, Pyrenees).

La Pera Medieval Village

Highlight • Settlement

La Pera is a beautiful medieval village built on a rocky promontory (from which the name derives). There is a tapas bar, called Bar l'Escola, in the old school, in the main square of the village. In summer you should book in advance here as it is great and very popular. There is also a small grocery store, called Can Condom.

Medieval Village of Púbol

Highlight • Settlement

Púbol is a great stop on a ride. There is the restaurant and café, Can Bosch, at the top of the hill, with large outdoor terrace, and locally-renowned "surf and turf" Catalan rice (book ahead). Pedret Bridge

Highlight • Bridge

Girona is where the Onyar meets the Ter and where there are two rivers, there are also some medieval bridges. This is one of the largest and connects directly in the direction of the old town with all its sights and, particularly exciting for racing cyclists, the cafés.
