Hiking
A mountain panorama like in a picture book - that's what awaits you on the 2,032 meter high Brechhorn. From the summit you look out over the Kitzbüheler Alpen, the Wilder Kaiser and the Hohe Tauern. This twelve-kilometer hike takes you up the mountain, including a break in the Brechhornhaus. The hike starts at the mountain station of the Alpenrosenbahn. You can let yourself gondola up the first few meters in altitude from Westendorf.
At the beginning you hike on a flat route towards Kreuzjöchl and enjoy wonderful views of the surrounding mountains. You will soon reach the picturesque Kreuzjöchlsee. You can take a short break on the banks of the lake. If you want to take a longer break, you will reach the Brechhornhaus after a few meters.
From now on it's going uphill. The path leads you almost exclusively along the ridge and offers you a wonderful foretaste of the panorama that awaits you from the summit cross. Once at the top you absolutely deserve a long breather. Let the impressive panorama work on you and the fresh mountain air blow around your nose.
On the way back to Kreuzjöchlsee you make a little detour towards Feldbergalm / Brandeggalm. A stop at the Brechhornhaus is worthwhile at the latest. Find a nice place on the sunny terrace and enjoy the regional delicacies before you hike back to the mountain station.
By the way: You can also spend the night in the Brechhornhaus. If you are an early riser, you can hike from here to the summit for the sunrise and experience how the sun bathes the impressive mountain ranges in their golden light - it is hard to start a day in the mountains better.

Yesterday, I gave my knees a rest so that today, on my last day, I could really enjoy it again: I took the train to Westendorf, and on the way to the cable car, I could see the cattle drive: all the cows and the farmers and dairymaids were dressed up, decorating the cows with flowers. This is a very important festival here, because the farmers are happy when all the animals return safely to the village in the fall. If animals are killed or have an accident in the summer, no floral decorations are allowed!!! My hike started from the Alprosenbahn mountain station. I really like the area because it's a bit more natural, wilder, and rugged. The vegetation here is also different from that in the Kitzbühel Valley. The weather was sunny, I had expansive panoramic views 😍, and the foehn wind felt good after the steep climbs. Great. TipiTopiTour 👌
A wonderful world of flora at this time of year! The altitude has added up through constant ups and downs! Beautiful alpine hike along a ridge. Picture of hut = DAV Alpenrose View of the "Wilder Kaiser" View from the summit of the "Großer Rettenstein" Unfortunately the view is clouded by haze/Shahra dust!
7 out of 8 dwarfs who set off have conquered the Brechhorn - the 2000er has probably seldom seen so many young summiteers (between 0 and 10 years old) :-) Before the last ascent, the 8th dwarf decided on the wooden ball track at the mountain railway station and hurried back with mom ahead. An ingenious multi-family hike in glorious late summer weather, even if nature was already partly autumnal. Great play of light and shadow thanks to the clouds in the sky, a real treat on the last day of the holiday!
