Adventure and history meet amidst the rugged beauty of the Cape Spear Path on the breathtaking east coast of Newfoundland. The path takes you south along an impressive coastal landscape, past the historic lighthouse and the World War II gun battery.
The trail winds through varied terrain, including a scenic climb to Cape Blackhead where you can enjoy panoramic views of the cliffs and Cabot Tower. Look out for whales and seabirds along the way, or take a short detour to the junction with the North Head Trail, where you'll find a quiet picnic spot.
The raw beauty of the surroundings will be undeniable as you cross the marshes and rivers, walking between ancient glacial erratics (rocks deposited by glaciers). This route makes up a stage of both the Trans Canada Trail and the East Coast Trail, and its unspoilt landscapes offer a relaxing escape from everyday life.
You can find more information about the trail and parking options here: https://eastcoasttrail.com/choose-a-path/listing/11-cape-spear-path/.
