Genkel Reservoir

Highlight • Lake

If you don't just love asphalt and if you also like to drive on non-asphalted paths, you can only suggest going around the reservoir (approx. 10km). Again and again there are beautiful views of the lake.

Great tour to the Genketalsperre. Sometimes over wide paths, small trails and a good stretch along the Gelenktalsperre. You can park for free at the Sauerland parking lot Höhenflug. 🔝 P.s Always follow the blue Höhenflug sign or blue arrow... Very well signposted 👍

Very nice hike with lots of water for the four-legged friend.

Our anniversary tour started in Meinerzhagen Heed. It is the Sauerland Höhenflug Extra round in the Meinerzhagen area. Marking: White "H" on a blue background. From Heed you briefly cross the district road and are led through great mixed forests up to the Fumberg. The Meinhardus Mattenschanze⛷️ will soon be reached. Now it goes steadily downhill to Badinghagen Castle, which can be seen much better recently due to the felling of trees in the area. Below the Heedberg along the Genkeltalsperre is the next destination. From here the sun was shining and there were great photo opportunities. A bit along the dam you reach the Listringhausen level, where the path leads up to the starting point. Just before Heed, the trail is just a narrow path that meanders through beautiful countryside. Most of the tour can also be walked in poor weather conditions, since it mostly leads over wide forest paths.

Right at the entry portal of the 250 km long and award-winning long-distance hiking trail, you can enjoy the first beautiful view of the Meinhardus-Mattenschanzen. Hidden deep in the forest is the moated castle Badinghagen, an old knight's seat whose over a thousand-year history has been documented. Today it is used as a private residence and can only be viewed from the outside. The round tour leads along the Agger and the Grotmicke, a near-natural and partially meandering body of water with floodplains that flows into the Genkeltalsperre. The Genkeltalsperre, in turn, as a pure drinking water reservoir, is fed by numerous small tributaries and thus supplies most of the households in the area. A signposted educational trail has been laid out along the path along the edge of the river. You can hike another special feature on the route: The Agger source.

A really nice round and I have to admit - I didn't know about the dam (there are so few of them here 🤣). We had to put on our rain jackets for 10 minutes, otherwise the weather was OK...

A very nice and well signposted hiking tour. And we found the Agger spring

Tour recommendation from Sauerland Höhenflug. Incredibly varied, beautiful tour at the beginning of the Sauerland Höhenflug in Meinerzhagen https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.sauerland-hoehenflug.de/de/amp/&sa=U&sqi=2&ved=2ahUKEwjTmpqW97KFAxUX_rsIHUofAjAQFnoECBMQAQ&usg=AOvVaw0fNy8mIsWhagI0ERwHXpWL

The second part of the hike is a challenging one! You have to walk over tree trunks and then through a small stream! Good physical condition and footwear are essential! Well worth it! You'll arrive at a beautiful forest at the back.
