Idyllic villages, cycle paths along fields and rivers and then a detour to a fine distillery: this round trip, which takes you from Gronau to Schöppingen and back again, is wonderfully varied. This also applies to the paths. You are not always on asphalt, but also on small paths that are not perfectly developed.
You start conveniently right at the train station in Gronau. And you choose the most beautiful route to cycle out of the city - always along the Dinkel. Soon one pretty village follows the next. In Nienborg you will also be surprised by a historic water mill. At the foot of the Baumberge you stop in Schöppingen. Here you can visit the farm shop of the Sasse fine distillery and, if you like, take a guided tour. But it doesn't have to be anything strong: you can also fill up your drinking bottle with spring water here.
On the way back to Gronau, the western Münsterland shows its green side. For example, you cycle through the Rüenberger Venn. If you feel like it, you can plan a detour to the Dreiländersee. If you don't want to leave Gronau immediately after your tour, you can visit the rock'n'pop museum.

In a cool 8 degrees Celsius, equipped with hats, gloves, and tea, we set off from the Dreiländersee. First, a short stretch through NL to Gronau. From there, the cycle path follows the Dinkel River and later the Verse River. Past Epe and Nienborg to Schöppingen and the Sasse distillery. We bought some small delicacies 😉. Unfortunately, we couldn't find a cafe in Schöppingen. Via Metelen, we headed off the main roads and along green, easy-to-ride cycle paths back to our starting point. A very relaxed, typical Münsterland route for nature lovers, but unfortunately, there were virtually no places to stop for refreshments.
Hello, I have to say that the tour was really good, beautiful paths, great views and good places to stop and a really great coffee at Drielandsee, all in all a beautiful day, okay, it was a bit chilly and windy but on the whole it was bearable, you are welcome to go.

The route is really great, but it also has some pitfalls at the main road crossings between Heek and Nienborg, so be careful. (See crossing - L 573) Please dismount and push your bike across the road. The cycle path here leads very short and steeply next to the bridge to the road and also just as short and steeply down the other side.
