The Augustinian Way is marked with a flaming heart and a black directional arrow and leads through a diverse landscape. After starting at the parish church of St. Burkhard in Messelhausen and crossing the small settlement, you enter the forest through the metal gate behind the chapel. From there, the trail continues along forest roads and concrete paths, sometimes gently curving, sometimes more challenging. The route leads through various districts, which provides additional variety. You can feel the tension between the natural elements and the history of the trail. The 8.5 km route can be completed in 3 to 4 hours – depending on your personal rest periods. However, I completed the trail without stopping, which shows that it is a beautiful but manageable tour. It seems to be a hike that moves not only physically but also mentally. A path that captivates in its simplicity yet leaves a profound impact. 🥰
In glorious sunny hiking weather, we set off this morning at 10 a.m. from the church in Messelhausen on the Augustinusweg. About 20 years ago, this trail was inaugurated by Father Christoph together with our current Pope Leo. Anne had organized everything weeks ago, and many followers of Father Christoph and Augustinus Messelhausen were present in large numbers. After a long time, the joy of seeing each other again was great and heartfelt. Passing blooming rapeseed fields and May-green forests with lush blooming wild garlic, Christoph once again explained the individual stations to us with much passion and joy. One of the artists, Josef Speth, was also along the way. A treat for the soul. Wonderful. Christa had beautifully set everything up in the sports center, so we had a lovely end with coffee and cake. Thank you to everyone who prepared and organized this day. Thank you very much.
