This trail is generally considered suitable for advanced mountain bikers due to its demanding nature. It features 'explosive climbs' and technical passages. While some sections might feel flowy, it's more technical than many other routes in the Netherlands and less ideal for beginners.
You can expect a dynamic and challenging ride with a mix of fast singletracks, steep climbs, and exhilarating descents. The route makes excellent use of the area's elevation changes, featuring high banked turns and narrow singletracks. While the area is sandy, the trail often provides good grip, especially after rain, but can become quite sandy during prolonged dry periods.
Yes, the trail offers several memorable sections. You'll encounter the infamous Start of Area 51, known for its steep climbs and challenging descents. Another key feature is the 'Rabbit kills the chicken' Technical Trail Feature (TTF), which includes steep climbs, sharp turns, and a narrow, technical passage between trees. An alternative route is available for this TTF if you prefer to bypass it. You'll also ride through the Singletrack Otterlo and a Technical Root Climb – Veluwe MTB Trail.
The starting point for the MTB Otterlo 2.0 Trail is conveniently located at Otterlo Events. This location offers amenities such as bike cleaning facilities, showers, and places for food and drinks, making it an ideal spot to begin and end your ride.
No, a vignette is not mandatory for riding the MTB Otterlo 2.0 Trail. However, voluntary contributions are highly encouraged to support the trail's upkeep and maintenance. This helps ensure the quality of the route for all riders.
The trail winds through nature reserves like the Mossel in Otterlo and the Roekelse Bos, where specific rules for dogs may apply. While mountain biking with dogs is generally permitted in some areas of the Veluwe, it's best to check local signage or the specific regulations for these reserves regarding dogs, especially leash requirements, to ensure a smooth ride for everyone.
The trail can be enjoyed year-round, but conditions vary. After rain, the sandy sections often provide good grip. However, during prolonged dry periods, the trail can become very sandy, which might make some sections more challenging. Spring and autumn generally offer pleasant temperatures and varied scenery.
Yes, the MTB Otterlo 2.0 Trail is part of the larger MTB Zuid-Veluwe network. It can be linked with the Ede and Lunteren routes for extended rides. The route itself also passes through sections of the official trails like MTB Lunteren and Area 51, allowing for diverse riding options.
The route winds through beautiful nature reserves, including the Mossel in Otterlo and the Roekelse Bos, as well as the forest grounds of the 's Heerenloo healthcare institution. You'll ride through dense forests with crooked, moss-covered trees and some sections even pass over broad sandy paths, partly through a campsite, and alongside a horse racing track. There's also a possibility of encountering free-roaming grazers on the Koeweg section.
The route has been recently adjusted, so it's highly recommended to follow the current route signs or use a GPX file for navigation. Relying on older information boards might lead you astray. This ensures you stay on the intended and updated path.
Yes, the starting point at Otterlo Events offers convenient amenities including places for food and drinks. Additionally, being located in the Veluwe region, there are likely cafes and restaurants in the nearby village of Otterlo for post-ride refreshments.
After 4 weeks finally back on the mtb road! MTB route Otterlo has recently been adjusted so it had to be conquered again! With only 5 degrees on the thermometer we set off in the bright morning sun and it promised to be another mighty ride! This route starts at Otterlo Events and is part of a mountain bike network MTB Zuid-Veluwe with fast single tracks, steep climbs and fast descents, so not for beginners! This route makes extensive use of height differences in the area and the beautiful nature reserves. Together with the route Lunteren this route shares the infamous 'Area51' section with steep climbs and tough descents. This part is marked red so every steering error is slaughtered... The route then leads through the Mossel in Otterlo and the beautiful Roekelse Bos. The route also goes through the forest area of the care institution 's Heerenloo where a super flowy trail has been constructed, that was great fun. Back at the VW bike truck we made a cup of coffee and went home tired but satisfied and with an empty head.
Take a short tour on the new route. Still a bit bouncy on the new pieces. So come and drive it smoothly😉🙏👍
My favorite MTB route, despite the long concrete bike path. The best segment is De Zanding and of course Area 51.
