This route was planned by komoot.
This trail is considered to be of moderate difficulty. While it features mostly accessible paths, some sections require good fitness and sure-footedness due to varied ascents, descents, and narrow, earthy terrain, especially in the 'Naurother Schweiz' area.
Yes, it is a circular route, meaning you'll end up back at your starting point without having to retrace your steps.
The trail typically starts and ends in Nauroth. While specific parking details aren't provided, you'll generally find designated parking areas near the trailhead in the village. Look for signs indicating trail parking.
The trail offers a diverse mix of terrain. You'll hike on wide natural forest, meadow, and riverside paths, as well as some narrow, earthy sections. Expect varied ascents and descents, including a gentle downhill into the upper Herzbach valley and a steady uphill climb along the Langschieder Bach. The 'Naurother Schweiz' section features steep paths past rugged rock formations.
The trail is rich in both natural beauty and historical sites. You'll encounter the impressive spoil heap of the former Rosit Slate Mine near Nauroth, other old mine entrances, and the unique rock formations of the 'Naurother Schweiz'. There are also tranquil water features like the Herzbach and Käsbach valleys, and a short detour to the serene Wisper Lake. Don't miss the View of the Taunus Hills near Nauroth for panoramic vistas.
Yes, the Naurother Grubengold Trail is generally dog-friendly. However, given the varied terrain and potential for wildlife, it's always best to keep your dog on a leash, especially in nature reserve areas like the Rosit spoil heap.
The trail offers a great experience in most seasons. Spring brings lush greenery and blooming wildflowers, while autumn showcases vibrant fall foliage. Summer is also pleasant, but be prepared for potentially warmer temperatures. Winter can be beautiful, but check local conditions for snow or ice, as some sections might become more challenging.
No, there are no specific permits or entrance fees required to hike the Naurother Grubengold Trail or to access the Naturpark Rhein-Taunus. It's freely accessible for hikers to enjoy.
The former mining areas, particularly the Rosit spoil heap, have become important nature reserves. These unique habitats support warmth-loving plants and various animal species, including reptiles like mountain and wall lizards, fire salamanders, and midwife toads. Keep an eye out for these special inhabitants!
Yes, the route also passes through sections of the Naurother Grubengold, Hessenweg 1 (Etappen 1+2), Grüne Tanne, Wispertaunussteig, and Rhein-Taunus-Klub Gelber Balken trails.
While the main trail is fantastic, consider taking the short detour to the serene Wisper Lake. It's a tranquil spot that many consider a highlight of the tour and offers a peaceful break from the main path.
...right at the beginning about 10 minutes of heavy rain showers...😡... got the first shower...☔️😫☔️...but then it stayed dry... And now to the tour itself... wow, just great, really good! In the middle of the tour, an almost alpine section with climbing passages... great little ridge path... at its best... if I may give a personal rating for this Wisper Trail: So far only Trail 2: Rhein Wisper Glück was at the top of the "Class" category (that also had something to do with the fact that I had a lovely companion with me). All other Wisper Trails I have hiked so far are also recommended... Super signposted and great paths... big praise to the people who are responsible for them 👌 Otherwise just great... recommendation... for this trail...👍👍👍👍👍👍
I'm in the Taunus region. Two or three years ago, @Keith (a.k.a. "Statler") wrote positive reports about some of the Wisper Trails. I already walked one two years ago and had more on my list the whole time. Now I'm here for a few days and am hiking a few of these trails. Today, in largely dry weather (a 20-minute rain shower), I walked this one. Almost entirely through forest, although mostly on fairly wide paths. And I didn't need the navigation system. The trail was signposted the whole way. Apparently, the trail is still regularly maintained. The detour to the lake (100 meters) was also worth it. And I met a cyclist there who, at over 80, still regularly rides his bikes. Ah - how nice it would be if I could still do that. Quick addendum: I didn't get beer and food until later at the hotel. I'm not entirely sure why komoot classified it as "in the middle."
Premiere! My first hike on a Wispertrail. What can I say? Fantastically beautiful. It's all there. Narrow paths, distant views, forest. So everything that makes a hiker happy. We met very few other hikers. Judging by the cars in the parking lot, a few more left after us. Here is the tour as a Relive video: https://www.relive.cc/view/vQvxzeVYDB6
Hello everyone, the Wisper Trail "Naurother Grubengold" was a very pleasant hiking trail to walk on. A varied route from narrow paths to wide paths, beautiful views and one or the other highlight on or on the path in combination with the excellent weather made for a nice hiking experience here 🙂 Signage was very good so far, it could have been a little better in one or two places 🤓 In terms of demand, the path is also very feasible 🙂 Greetings and have fun hiking 🙂 Tobias
Beautiful and entertaining guided hiking trail, always accompanied by the gurgling of the many small streams. Unfortunately, the hiking trail was difficult to walk in the first quarter because the harvesters even broke the gravel paths 😫😠🤮
This scenic hike with some climbs, wide paths and narrow trails also offers interesting geological insights. Mining in Nauroth has been documented since 1741. Mining was carried out until the 1960s and at peak times up to 300 people found work here. On the hike (anticlockwise) you first pass the former "Grube Rosit". You can recognize it by the huge slate rubble heaps. In the upper part of the Käsbachtal valley lies the old "Hembergers Grube" tunnel, now a winter quarters for bats. You should take the short branch path to Wispersee, and then pass the third slate mine "Meiers Hofnung" on the tour.
Today we hiked a Wisper Trail with our friends Bettina and Edgar again ... the Naurother Grubengold! The Wisper trails are very close to nature and always have a great mix of forest and field as well as plain and incline for me. Sometimes on wide paths and then quickly back on narrow paths. The Wisper trails are very beautiful and special. We ran this trail once in July 2020 in the heat and dryness. Today the weather was rather gray and the surface damp. Both times there was a great atmosphere of their own. Gold was of course not stoked here, but slate and ore. And based on the environment, I don't think that the people there became wealthy as a result. So no real gold rush atmosphere ... ... but our mood was perfect and we ended the evening in the Keßler winery in Martinsthal with good food and wine. Have a good week to you 🙋🏼♂️
Today I went back to the beginning of my Komoot activities and picked out a tour in the Wispertal. The Nauroth Wildwechsel did not offer any game, but babbling brooks, blooming meadows, forest and a short path between rocks. Overall ok, but I was missing a real highlight and the paths are currently very muddy (the sandy soil of the Palatinate apparently copes better with the rain), the benches and meadow paths are often overgrown... a little maintenance of the premium hiking trail would be good.
