This route was planned by komoot.
Today, my first day in Zillertal, I chose the route to Grieralm and Höllensteinhütte as a warm-up. Don't worry, the route is only 14 kilometers long and has a height difference of only 630 meters (I don't know what Komoot calculates sometimes). First, it was about 5 kilometers along the Tuxbach, a nice walking path for families with lots of little themed playgrounds. Then it was about 2 kilometers steeply uphill until just before the Grieralm. Once we got to the top, we were rewarded with delicious cheese spaetzle. From there, it was another short uphill climb and then a 5-kilometer descent past the Höllensteinhütte back to Lanersbach.
Today a relaxed Sunday hike to the Grieralm. Started directly at the hotel, it went through beautiful, shady forests, across wide meadows, past the Griersee to the Grieralm. The music played there today. Back it went back relaxed at the Tuxer Bach. Despite the altitude a very pleasant tour without much effort.
Our last day of vacation here in the Zillertal brought us back to the valley of the Tuxerbach. However, this time we didn't drive to the end of the valley as far as Hintertux, but parked the car earlier in Junis. Right at the beginning of the village, a beautiful forest path leads us further up. The incline is pleasant to walk and soon you will reach a small forest road, which is used as a natural toboggan run down into the valley in winter. Toboggans can be rented in the Höllsteinhütte in winter. The descent is 3.5 kilometers long. There is no sign of tobogganing or snow today, instead we are accompanied by the sounds of the forest and the scent of fir trees. Soon our path swings back into the forest and only leaves it again shortly before the Höllensteinhütte. We are standing in a magnificent high valley and happy cows are grazing on meadows adorned with flowers. The Höllensteinhütte is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays - but our lunch destination is the Grieralm anyway. In order to reach it, we follow a flower-lined path across the meadows, turn again into a forest and conquer the last few meters of altitude. We are standing on a beautiful plateau and can look far into the Tux valley. On a path that is now wider again, we pass a beautiful Milchalm, an enchanting lake and reach the Grieralm just in time for the lunch break. The menu is richly stocked and with full stomachs we make our way back. This leads mostly through shady forest on pretty narrow paths. At the bottom of the valley we reach the Tuxerbach, which we enjoy following again until June.
Finally it worked out with the Tuxer Tal - from the entrance to Juns we went up to the Höllensteinhütte and on to the Grieralm. It was a beautiful hike with a lot of rocky and rooty mountain trails. With the sky still bright blue, it was very pleasant that the morning ascent route was still largely in the shade and we only came into the sun at the height of the Höllensteinhütte. Since it was still before 11 a.m. we only touched the Höllensteinhütte and went straight over the mountain ridge to the Grieralm. This transition up through the forest was a bit sweaty again, but at the highest point you walk through a wonderful mountain landscape with a magnificent view of the Tux mountains. We then had a really good time on the beautiful Grieralm (the Almburger is highly recommended!) and enjoyed the idyllic Alpine atmosphere in the shade of the parasols. We were glad that we didn't use the steep path down towards Madseit to climb up, it was also really nice but there were countless bends and also correspondingly steep. In the valley we went over the suspension bridge and from there relaxed along the Tuxbach back to Juns. A first-class hike with repeat character and the Grieralm is definitely on the list next time!
We did this hike in 2023, and because it was so beautiful, we did it again this year. And it was just as beautiful as it was back then 😊. Fantastic weather ☀️, fantastic trails, fantastic hut, fantastic food 😋🍻. Oh well, just look at the pictures! 😎
