Hiking
From the Neunerköpfle, a beautiful high-altitude trail leads above the Tannheim Valley past the Schrofen to the Landsberger Hütte.
Descent via the Traualpe to the Vilsalpsee to Tannheim.
Two small peaks, a magnificent panoramic trail, bright blue lakes and blooming alpine meadows enrich this varied hike. A gondola takes us to the starting point, so that we only have to climb a few meters in altitude on this tour.
The view is particularly breathtaking on clear days on the grassy mountains around the Schochenspitze: In the curve after the climb, a spectacular mountain panorama of the Lachenspitze and the surrounding peaks opens up to us.
The Landsberger Hütte, Traualpe and Gappenfeldalm offer us good places to stop for a break. The descent is via the Traualpe - towards the Vilsalpsee and to Tannheim.
Directions:
We use the comfortable and beautiful ascent option of the 8-seater Neunerköpfle gondola and float up the slope. Starting from the mountain station, we can tackle one of them straight away: A short, 15-minute walk takes us up to the summit cross of the Neunerköpfle, from where we have an impressive panoramic view of the Allgäu Alps, the lowlands and the Zugspitze.
Finally, we leave the summit on the southern side and enter the Saalfelder Höhenweg (No. 421), a comfortable panoramic path along meadow slopes.
In summer, the alpine roses and gentian bloom here in bright colors. Sometimes even an edelweiss flashes. We continue to follow the path, to the right below us we see first the Usseralpe, then the Gappenfeldalpe. However, we orient ourselves in the direction of the Schochenspitze.
Shortly before the Schochen, the climb becomes steep and rocky, narrow serpentines on grassy fields finally lead us to the top. In a quarter of an hour, this summit is also reached. We enjoy the view of the blue-green Traualpsee, the Landsberger Hütte and the Vilsalpsee. From the meadows at the Schochenspitze we reach a path over scree fields, on which we reach the Landsberger Hütte below the Lachenspitze.
We descend to the Traualpsee and hike further down the valley to the Vilsalpsee. There you can easily take the bus or the Alpenexpress or walk towards Tannheim. This ends at the beginning of Tannheim, we now walk straight ahead on the road, pass a small chapel and come to the center of Tannheim. At the roundabout we keep right and can see the valley station of the gondola again, where we started our hike.
Tip:
An absolute dream tour in the Tannheim mountains.
This tour was also awarded the Tyrolean Mountain Trail Seal of Quality as Austria's most popular hike in July 2017.

A dream tour in the Tannheimer Mountains. As I wanted to have breakfast in the mountains, I used the first ride on the Neunerköpflebahn to ascend. Once I got to the top, a wonderful view of the impressive mountains of the Tannheimer Valley opened up. At this time, I was the only guest in the Grundhütte. With a hut board and coffee, I enjoyed the peace and quiet in the wonderful surroundings. Strengthened, I set off. After visiting the summit cross of the Neunerköpfle, I continued towards the Landsberger Hütte. The path led me across colorful meadows and past grazing cows through the impressive panorama. After a few short detours, I reached the Landberger Hütte and strengthened myself with a freshly baked apricot crumble cake that was still warm. Very tasty. Then the rocky descent to the Traualpsee and further into the valley to the Vilsalpsee began. A small train was just waiting at the bottom, which took me back to the starting point. There I watched a few paragliders.
Since bad weather is reported for tomorrow, there was no rest day today, although my thighs urgently needed it... First stage with the cable car - the dark clouds do not bode well. But if you don't dare, you don't win either. I think the pictures speak for themselves. The views cannot be beat. Then you have to accept the rather difficult first part of the descent from the Landsberger Hütte (steep, rocky, wet and slippery today - but with rope insurance). Then we went back from Vilsalpsee by bus to Tannheim. We had already walked the week and besides, our legs and feet hurt quite a lot. After a few laps of swimming and extensive use of the massage jets, I'm now ready for the 5-course menu 😊

Hello dear ones, Today I experienced a very special, unforgettable, eventful and unprecedented day of mastering a challenge. I can't really describe it in words, my heart and soul are still so touched and filled with gratitude. My dear Mum and Zoya accompanied me up to the Neunerköpfle in Tannheim. It was a comfortable ride in the gondola and today I had no problems at all. And the next clover leaf was for Zoya.😍 At the top I said goodbye to the two of them and headed for the summit. The great feeling I had was my constant companion today...no sign of dizzy spells or problems with altitude anywhere. I met several other hikers and I kept getting into conversation. The first hiker encounters at the summit were very nice and we took photos of each other! On the way I spoke to another couple who told me that they were also doing the lake tour, but didn't know if it was possible because hikers had turned back yesterday because of snow fields that were very muddy and slippery. Wow... OK... then we'll see... in an emergency I can always turn back. And so we continued on beautiful paths with wonderful views and a fantastic mountain panorama. From afar I could see the large snow field, but then I also saw the couple from the summit and so I thought I'd sneak after them. The snow field was really tough, it was extremely strenuous and I wouldn't have managed it without poles... and also not without the tracks that the two of them had made beforehand. It was steep and the footprints were quite far apart but I managed to get up with a lot of courage and strength... phew... that was not for the faint of heart. At the top I met the two of them and they took a few more pictures - it's great when you're put in the spotlight like that.😍😂😂 Then we continued down to the Lache and the Traualpsee.....the mountains all around are simply fascinating and I was deeply touched again and again to be able to experience that today and that I felt so good while doing it. Again and again we went over more snow fields, some were difficult but then I finally got to the Landsberger Hütte....here I simply treated myself to a yeast dumpling for lunch...it was soooo delicious....so I enjoyed the great area again and then it was time to descend. That was another challenge...phew, phew, phew...but again I was rewarded with such great impressions...a big waterfall....the Traualpsee....dream views....great paths...and then the Vilsalpsee.... from there we went back to Tannheim and there I met my dear mother and our dear Zoya again. Forgive the long report and the many pictures.😎 I am infinitely grateful for this day. My first mountain tour in what feels like an eternity, unthinkable a while ago... and today experienced with all my senses.☺️🙏🏻 I send you my very best wishes ☘️🌸🙋♀️
Our last mountain tour was another adventure that we will always remember. First, we took the cable car up to the Neunerköpfle. During the ride, we enjoyed the breathtaking view of the surrounding mountains and valleys. The sun was still shining from the sky, even though the weather forecast had not been so kind. It seemed as if we had been lucky again. Once we got to the top, we set off along the high trail towards the Landsberger Hütte. The path meandered through the majestic Alps and offered us breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. The clear mountain air and the lush green of the alpine meadows made us forget the last day of our vacation. After a good 2 hours, we reached the Landsberger Hütte, which was idyllically nestled between the peaks. There we treated ourselves to a well-deserved rest and enjoyed a cold beer ;) Refreshed, we finally set off on the descent to the Vilsalpsee. The path led us through dense forests and past babbling streams. The further we descended, the denser the vegetation became and we were able to experience the changes in the landscape first hand. When we arrived at the lake, the sky was reflected in its clear water and we ended the day with a refreshing beer. It was our last tour of the season, but it left a lasting impression. The weather was once again better than forecast, which gave us additional joy. We are already looking forward to next year, when we will start our 2025 hut holiday at the Landsberger Hut. There are still so many peaks to climb and paths to discover, and the mountains keep calling us back.
We took a leisurely gondola ride from Tannheim up to Neunerköpfle. ... brrr, it was pretty cold and foggy up there 🥶🥶 Unfortunately, the 3-Lakes Panorama Tour with Lache, Traualpsee, and Vilsalpsee didn't offer us quite as much of a panorama today as usual 😅 Still a lovely tour, and in good company, it's even possible without the sun. 🙃🙃
A fantastic 🔨 beautiful day came to an end, and it's definitely still in our bones... Sooo many amazing views 😍☀️ Parking fee, as always, €5 all day...
A very scenic tour with room for improvement. 📍Tannheim 📍Ride up with the Neunerköpfle cable car 📍Neunerkopf summit 📍Schochenspitze 📍Lache See 📍Landsberger Hütte with a view of the Lachenspitze 📍Traualpsee 📍Vilsalpsee 📍Tannheim

This plan cannot correspond to the "most popular hike in Austria" because it contains off-grid sections that I cannot recommend walking. In some places, there is not even a path visible. And even before the off-grid section, you should continue to follow the marked path "DAV 425".
We did this on October
