Plan A today was the lady's slipper orchid hike. But just before Neuhaus (starting point) there was a road closure until tomorrow due to construction work. The detour via Mariazell was too much for me - but what alternatives do we have? So I finally decided on the Wasserlochklamm, as Hannelore and Gerti don't know it. I wouldn't recommend the gorge at the weekend during the main holidays because of the crowds of visitors. After rainy days there is an extremely large amount of water flowing, the various waterfalls are magnificent and a special natural experience. We take a different hiking trail back - this one is marked in black so that inexperienced hikers don't choose it. But with good hiking boots it is easy to walk - sometimes secured with ropes - but not difficult. On the way home we stop at the Hammerwirt Lett' n inn between Lassing and Göstling. There are 3 menus to choose from today, including game stew. I choose the following menu: Soup with spleen slices, cabbage roll with mashed potatoes + drink € 13.40 Hannelore's soup plus game stew and drink € 14.40 Entry to the gorge is € 10.00
You should be sure-footed for the descent via the Jägerriedel. 🥾
It was a good decision to enjoy it today, before the thunderstorms and the heat are on the way. In bad weather, the hike is not possible and access is closed. A steep path with a staircase that seems endless to the untrained is a challenge, but impressively beautiful. Starting first thing in the morning, before the increasing crowd, was an advantage for us on the very narrow paths.
