1st stage of the Sauerland high-altitude flight is done. It started in Altena, the first kilometers only uphill 🥵. The stage has great views and beautiful narrow paths. There were only a few asphalted sections. The first stage ended in Neuenrade an der Wilhelmshöhe. Highly recommended 👍.
My 2nd stage on the "Sauerland - Höhenflug" went from Altena (Hagen) to Neuenrade. It is also the 1st stage of the northern access to this long-distance hiking trail. This trail offers absolutely fantastic views. You are out and about in the Sauerland, and a great mountain landscape is offered here. I enjoyed it. Spectacular views from "Hegenscheid" and from the Quitmann tower on Kohlberg...👏 Spring has now also arrived in the Sauerland. Way back to the starting point: From Neuenrade Wilhelmshöhe you can easily take the bus to Werdohl (Bus 60, runs every half hour... to Werdohl 17 min). From there, you are back in Altena in 8 minutes with the RB 91.......if you want to reach this tour by car. This time I was actually completely travelling by public transport. Phew.
I'm doing my first long hike this year in the Sauerland. There I chose the Sauerland Höhenflug hiking trail, which I will be walking for the next 3.5 days. I started in Altena in the rain, but it gradually got lighter and stopped around midday. On today's route I had beautiful views again and again, the paths were quite muddy in places, but that's due to the time of year.
Together with @Vero123 we went along the first stage of the Sauerland high-altitude flight. At the airport, the gliders took off and landed in wind and sun, nice to look at. We especially liked the first part of the trail, first views of the city, then many small paths and old forests. The gorse is in the starting blocks on the slopes and I'm already looking forward to the bright yellow in the next few weeks.
