By (taxi)bus from Attendorn to Valbert. From there back to Attendorn via Höhenflug. A really beautiful hike.
In the autumnal 🍂🍁Sauerland weather we turned onto the Sauerland Höhenflug in Valbert. A great route on the way to Attendorn with wonderful and wide views towards Attendorn, Herscheid, Plettenberg and far into the Sauerland. 📷 Beautiful single trail paths, very little asphalt and well signposted. Arrival from Attendorn by public transport. No problem👍
From the monument square in the sleepy little town of Valbert, the access path leads straight up to the altitude of the Nordhelle. From here, hikers are constantly accompanied by fantastic far-reaching views that live up to the name "high-altitude flight". It's just a pity that so many unobstructed views are due to the trees dying. All in all, I think it's still within limits at the moment, you don't get the impression of walking through a lunar landscape! As a result, route diversions are to be expected for this stage. They are well signposted! Other waypoints are the high altitudes of Waldberg, Rehberg and Ruenhardt. The route often leads over developed farm roads, and always has a small highlight in store. It's about narrow single trails with the feeling of being completely immersed in nature, or you dream on the cloud sofa at the Nordhelle and marvel at the Kater-Holzig Weg near Windhausen, where a nameless creative person has created an interesting gem. The main route ends in the high-altitude village of Windhausen! Highlights of the stage are: - the Ebbemoore - Robert-Kolb Tower at the North Helle - sound sculpture “cloud bank” https://www.sauerland-hoehenflug.de/de/wolkenbank - Hangover-woody way On this route there is a place to stop for refreshments, which is located at the Robert-Kolb Tower on the north side and of course in the center of Attendorn, if you plan to end the stage there. I would like to say that this is advisable, regardless of whether you are looking for a place to stay overnight or want to take public transport back to Valbert. Commuting between Attendorn and Meinerzhagen is easy with the R61 bus line.
Sauerland high-altitude flight, southern route, stage 2. Since I was convinced that I definitely needed raisin rolls from the bakery in Valbert on the way, I had a good 4,000 steps and a few meters of altitude on the clock before breakfast... 🥵 At Landhaus Nordhelle I had the best Bircher muesli I've ever eaten, and by the time I had my hiking boots on, my spirits were back and the last traces of sore muscles were shaken off... The stage is beautiful, great views, beautiful paths, chirping Birds, buzzing and buzzing insects, blueberries. In between, unfortunately, quite a bit of forest death... 😥 Because after only 19 km I was slightly infiltrated, I added another 3.5 km to the city walk in Attendorn. From here then also a bit of long-distance crisis management because child 2 in Spain has a sore throat... 🥴
