Hiking
In contrast to the Erzweg Süd www.komoot.com/de-de/tour/1755295481, the Erzweg Nord hiking trail is somewhat more secluded and wilder. It impressively shows the relics of ore mining in the Vogelsberg region and brings the mining history back to life with numerous information boards. Routes of former mine railways, ramps and deep cuts in the landscape indicate busy activities. Foundations of former cable cars testify to a widespread transport network to the loading stations in Lumda, Nieder-Ohmen and Mücke.
The cultural-historical relics of the mining of iron ore and bauxite - an aluminum raw material - are embedded in a natural landscape with idyllic ponds, secluded forests, open meadows with wide views over the Vogelsberg and past typical half-timbered houses. Here you can breathe freely and relax.

Start and finish at Holzwiesenteich in Atzenhain. Well signposted and many information boards on the history of iron ore mining.

We didn't like the route very much. Too much tar or not very good gravel paths. The central and southern variants appealed to us better.
But the beautiful autumn colors and the pleasant hiking temperatures made up for it.
