Hiking
Geological features and natural monuments accompany this circular route that begins in Homberg (Ohm). From the hill of the "Hohen Berg" you can look far across the fertile Ohmtal to the Lahnberge and Amöneburg, which is enthroned on an extinct volcanic crater. In the other direction, the Vogelsberg mountain range rises gently with the Hoherodskopf in the center.
Numerous natural monuments and a natural landscape with hedges and small forests accompany you on the way. A 500 m long hedge hollow path is enchanting. Old and new evidence of mining, such as a view of Europe's largest basalt quarry near Nieder-Ofleiden, as well as historically documented events such as the "sinkhole" described by Merian in 1571, are further highlights on this circular hiking trail. Information boards along the way point out interesting sites and events. About halfway along the hiking trail, there is an ideal resting place at the “Dicke Steine” natural monument. Children will also love the easy, varied route. A sea of rocks in particular will encourage them to climb.

This route was planned by komoot.
After work round. Shortly abbreviated because of the weather. Definitely worth seeing. Geological highlights (sometimes reminiscent of the large Felsenmeer in the Odenwald). Shortly before the end a pond with crested newts was discovered. Since I'm lazy, here's a link to the official tour.
Beautiful and very special. At the end, not a thread was dry, there was water in my shoes, but it didn't take away from the magic of the tour. I'll definitely do it again, although the view was limited this time due to the weather. 🤩🐾
For a long time we had difficulty editing the tours we had done on Komoot, so there are still some "unpublished" ones that were beautiful. This is the 2nd attempt at the geo trail near Homberg/Ohm. The first time it rained so heavily from the basalt quarry onwards that by the end there was not a thread left dry and visibility was zero. Now the weather was perfect and it was fantastic. The Amöneburg has been an eye-catcher for a long time 👀. Plus the fascinating rock formations, old trees, streams, paths. 🤩
Beautiful & educational tour on the volcano. Sure-footedness required here and there but still suitable for children.
A nice round with some highlights and views. There are enough parking spaces at the starting point, there are no restaurants along the way, but there are many rest areas.
Inspired by a follower, we went this tour today, unfortunately the rain caught up with us for the last 500m, nevertheless a nice tour that we had all to ourselves today
Crisp cold and the occasional ray of sunshine, the perfect weather for a hike in November! We really enjoyed the tour because there were many different landscapes along the way: forest, cherry avenue, plateau with meadows and fields, a view of the largest basalt quarry in Europe, the sea of rocks, mighty ancient trees and a distant view from a summit. What more could you want?!
Nice little round for family. Small highlights so that the children don't get bored.
