This route was planned by komoot.
The route is varied with all surfaces but a lot of gravel or bound material. Scenery and places are beautiful. A branch to Billerbeck can also be made. By my standards, there were also strenuous mountain rides without a motor. We enjoyed the ride. Parking and catering if required at the Gerleve monastery. https://www.abtei-gerleve.de/
To round off our stay here in Münster, we were still missing a nice bike tour through the Münsterland. For a change, my wife picked out today's tour on Komoot. It was a ready-made tour suggestion that we adopted unchanged. In most places it is also a signposted cycle route. We did not regret our choice! It was a beautiful and interesting route that familiarized us with the landscape, towns and sights in the area! 😊 We started at the Benedictine Abbey of Gerleve, where we had also parked the car. The next stop was Haus Hameren. It was a stroke of luck that we were able to see it like this because it is privately owned, like most of the other mansions that we looked at today. We wouldn't have seen much from the road. But the owner invited us to take a little tour of the property, which is much older and more impressive than it first appeared! We then continued on to the small town of Billerbeck, which is well worth seeing. At the Kolvenburg we got chatting to a very friendly 76-year-old cyclist who also cycles every day and has covered an incredible number of kilometers over the course of a year! 😳 He also recommended the good and incredibly inexpensive Café Hellmann in Billerbeck and showed us the way there. We got coffee and food for both of us there for 8 euros! 😊 The highlight of the place is the St. Ludgerus Cathedral, which is very impressive inside and out! 😳 We continued on very good paths to Varlar Castle, which is also privately owned. Only once did we have to take a typical "tile path" with climbing because of forestry work. 😁 Another highlight of the tour was the district town of Coesfeld! From today's perspective, it is hard to imagine that the busy market square had degenerated into a car park in the 80s! So we have already come a little further in the right direction! Luckily, while looking for food, we came across the Brauhaus St. Stephanus! The food and the shandy here were delicious and will be remembered! The last few kilometers back to Gerleve ran through a beautiful hilly landscape with wide views in the warm evening sun. 🥰 PS: Unfortunately, the photo order in the app is completely messed up again! 🪣
A really nice, very varied tour!
Today a round trip from Coesfeld. The suggestion came from Komoot, but I had to make some changes. I have added the Trappist memorial (monastery) and the detour via the Darfeld moated castle, which is well worth seeing. As a result, the round was a bit more northerly and larger, but should not be missing on the round trip to Billerbeck. I am overwhelmed by the cathedral in Billerbeck. If you don't look here, it's your own fault... You travel around the world to see churches worth seeing, in which hundreds of people stand on their feet, and here in the small town of Billerbeck is the Cathedral of St. Ludgerus, of the many churches and domes in capitals of the world can hold a candle... So far I've only ever passed it or seen the towers from afar, what a mistake.... But everything else on this tour was absolutely great, so the tour gets 5 out of 5 stars!
A great tour. Copied from Wolfgang and only minimally changed. Many Thanks. again👍🙋♂️🍀☀️
