The trail is considered of moderate difficulty. While much of the route is relatively flat, the sandy paths can be quite strenuous on your legs. Expect some uneven footing, but no advanced hiking skills are required.
You'll experience a varied landscape, including sandy paths, dense forested areas, and expansive open dunes. The scenery features lush greenery, heather, wildflowers, and common tree species like pine and birch. Clear canals, part of the park's water purification system, also wind through the dunes.
The park is known for its abundant wildlife. You have a high chance of spotting fallow deer, which are numerous and often accustomed to human presence. Foxes are also present, though less frequently seen. Over 100 bird species can be found here as well.
No, to preserve the serene atmosphere and protect the delicate ecosystem, dogs are not permitted within the Amsterdam Water Supply Dunes. This ensures a quiet environment ideal for observing nature.
There are generally no entrance fees for the Amsterdam Water Supply Dunes. However, it's important to note that cycling is also not permitted within the park to maintain its tranquility. Hikers are uniquely allowed to roam freely off designated paths in most areas, offering a greater sense of exploration.
The trail can be enjoyed year-round, but spring and early summer offer vibrant wildflowers, while autumn brings beautiful foliage. The park's dynamic nature means it offers a unique experience in every season.
Key points of interest include the serene Forest Path with Bracken, the expansive Marelberg viewpoint, and the Langevelderslag Beach Pavilions at the end of your hike. You'll also see the clear canals that are part of Amsterdam's vital water purification system.
For the start of the hike in De Zilk, you can look for parking options near the entrance points to the Amsterdam Water Supply Dunes in that area. For the Langevelderslag end, there is typically parking available near the beach pavilions.
Yes, the route from De Zilk to Langevelderslag intersects with several other paths. You'll find sections that are part of the AWD-Zilk-Zwart, Nederlands Kustpad deel 2 - 04, Langeveldwandeling, and Zandhagedisroute, among others.
While the main part of the trail through the dunes is largely natural, you will find facilities such as restrooms and potentially water at the Langevelderslag Beach Pavilions at the end of your hike. It's advisable to carry enough water for the duration of your walk.
No, this specific route is a point-to-point hike, starting in De Zilk and ending at Langevelderslag. You will need to arrange transportation from Langevelderslag back to your starting point or continue your journey from there.
Nice walk from the parking De Zilk to Langevelderslag. From there via the beach and then strolling through the dunes on unclear paths and soft sand paths. But the surroundings remained beautiful.
I'm celebrating King's Day with a walk. A bit closer to home. Time to explore my backyard, the Waterleidingduinen. The fresh entrance, so I'll be there the least. You walk into the park and immediately turn left onto the sandy path. Sand is also what you'll be walking on the most. At 8km you'll go onto the beach for 1.3km. Before Noordvoort you'll get off again and it's a tough climb up the dune. Then back into the AWD and with a big bend over the unpaved paths back to De Zilk.
Made a round through the zilk and took a piece of beach. And again enjoyed the beautiful nature and magnificent sunrise 🌅🤩. Happy Easter everyone 🐣.
