Great tour with fantastic panoramic views. From Lake Schwarzkofel to the ascent to Straßkopf, the trail is quite exposed in places (black markings). Surefootedness is required.
Via a toll road - suitability for off-road vehicles is an advantage - for €4.00 to the starting point at the Winklerner Hütte. It's quite quick to get up to the Strasskopf. The route continues over a ridge at an altitude of 2600m to the Großbodenscharte. A head for heights and surefootedness are essential. Some alpine climbing passages over scree to the Schwarzkofelsee are included (not a via ferrata!). The path then continues steadily downhill, passing a few water points. An alpine circuit worth seeing, but not for beginners. Plan at least 5 hours for the tour.
Drive up the toll road (€4 per car) from Iselsberg to the Roaner Alm. From here we follow the Wiener Höhenweg, which initially follows the slope without gaining much altitude. Then we go over the pasture to a hill, where we come across a signpost. We go right towards Schwarzkofelsee. The last stretch of ascent before the lake leads through rough boulders. A little after the lake there is a small shelter with seating. The long path to the Strasskopf is initially rocky again and goes up and down over the ridge with slight ups and downs. After we have reached the summit cross, we go down a grassy slope to the Winklener Hütte where delicious desserts await. After a leisurely end to the foggy hike, we return to the car park at the Roaner Alm.
