The full route is considered difficult, covering approximately 22.7 km with an elevation gain of about 1232 meters, and typically takes around 8 hours to complete. While some sections, like the path directly to Seebergsee, are easier (T2), the overall trail involves significant ascents and descents, making it a moderately demanding tour (T2 and T3 categories).
Starting points for hikes in Diemtigtal Nature Park, including those leading to lakes, are generally accessible by car or PostBus. For areas like Seebergsee, car parks are available, though some access roads may require a toll. It's advisable to check specific access details for your chosen starting point within the park.
Yes, dogs are generally allowed in Diemtigtal Nature Park. However, it's crucial to keep dogs on leads, especially when passing through private land, cultivated pastures, or areas with livestock, to ensure the safety of both your pet and local animals.
The best time for hiking this trail is typically from June to October. During these months, the paths are generally free of snow, and the weather is most favorable for enjoying the alpine scenery and lake views.
There is no general entrance fee for Diemtigtal Nature Park itself. However, be aware that some specific access roads to car parks within the park, particularly those leading to popular spots like Seebergsee, may require a toll.
The terrain features a varied mix of well-maintained paths, lush alpine meadows, and some steeper, rocky sections. You'll encounter ascents and descents through forests and along streams, with the area around Seebergsee offering stunning clear waters and an impressive mountain backdrop. Proper footwear with good grip is highly recommended.
Key highlights include the picturesque Scheidegg Pass and the charming Stierebärg Hut. A major draw is the View of Seebergsee, an idyllic alpine lake known for its clear waters and dramatic mountain surroundings. From various viewpoints, you can also enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and even glimpses of Lake Thun.
Yes, the route also passes through sections of the Bergweg Kraftort Grimmiwasser, the Erlebnisweg Grimmimutz, and the Diemtigtaler Talwanderweg, offering opportunities to experience parts of these other trails.
While the trail passes by the Stierebärg Hut, which may offer refreshments, it's always wise to carry sufficient water and snacks. The park emphasizes cultural immersion, with 140 alpine farms, some of which might offer local products. For more extensive facilities, you would typically find them in villages accessible from the park.
Given the trail's difficulty and varied terrain, you should bring sturdy hiking boots with good grip, appropriate layers of clothing for changing alpine weather, sufficient water and snacks, sun protection, and a map or GPS device. Trekking poles can also be beneficial for the steeper sections.
Yes, Seebergsee is an ideal spot for a refreshing swim during the summer months. Its crystal-clear, shimmering blue water, surrounded by an impressive mountain backdrop, makes it a popular and scenic location for a dip.
Today we went to Schwandern/Grimmialp at the very back of the Diemtig valley to pay a visit to the well-known Seebergsee. It was actually only 10 degrees early in the morning🥶 when I started from the parking lot at the "Blauseeli", but only for a very short time until the sun was over the mountain and the valley lit up. In the cold shock I forgot to start my watch, so the first 2 km and about 30 minutes are missing in the recording 😏. So I started the clock just before it really got down to business, 500hm relatively steep in one go to the Vordermenigen level above the valley. It went up and down repeatedly on the whole tour, but never so much in one go. From the level we then go up another hill and into the basin in the direction of Seebergsee. You can soon see a small part of the Seebergsee, but I only discovered that at home in the photos 🧐🙈. From this height, you go down 120m on the back side until you reach the Seebergsee alpine hut (with Buvette) and the hiking trail that comes from the Seebergsee car park. Now only a short distance to the lake. It's nice on this lake and this peace 😊. Since I was there early there were only two other hikers and two mountain bikers - anything but usual. My route then went past the lake to the Gubi transition, where you suddenly have the Obersimmental in mind and could also descend into the valley to Zweisimmen - not my direction😊. So, continuing to follow the Fromattgrat, the Höhenweg leads me to the alpine farms on the Fromatt, always with a view of the Simmental. 170 meters in altitude have to be mastered one last time to get over the Scheidegg Pass and from there it's only a long way down back to the Grimmialp. It was a long, but very varied tour. Beautiful area👌🏻
