This specific route is considered a hard gravel ride. It demands good fitness and advanced riding skills. Be prepared for varied terrain, and there's a possibility you might need to dismount and push your bike on certain challenging sections.
A gravel bike or cyclocross bike is ideal for this route due to its varied terrain. While a race bike with at least 28mm tires could be used, be aware that some small sections might require walking.
The loop starts from Buiten in de Kuil in Lage Vuursche. This is a popular starting point for outdoor activities in the area and offers amenities like parking. It's a welcoming spot for cyclists and outdoor enthusiasts, even with dirty gear.
Yes, the route offers several notable highlights. You'll experience the Gravel path at Groeneveld Estate, enjoy Gravel at Lage Vuursche, and pass by Gravel Wieksloterweg West Side. Further along, you'll find the De Paltz gravel path and unique Bird Sculptures on Gravel Path, Utrechtse Heuvelrug. The route also takes you through extensive forests, over heathland, and past impressive rural estates and castles, including Paleis Soestdijk.
For general gravel biking on designated paths within Utrechtse Heuvelrug National Park, you typically do not need a specific permit. However, if you plan to venture onto dedicated mountain bike trails that intersect or run alongside the route, a separate MTB vignette might be required. Always check local signage for the most current regulations.
While the Utrechtse Heuvelrug National Park generally welcomes dogs, specific rules apply. Dogs are usually allowed on a leash on most paths. However, some sensitive nature areas or sections of the route might have stricter regulations or be off-limits for dogs. It's always best to check local signage or the park's official website for detailed information regarding dog access on this particular route.
The route offers beautiful scenery throughout the year. Spring and autumn are often ideal, with pleasant temperatures and vibrant natural colors. Summer can also be great, but be prepared for potentially warmer weather. Winter conditions might include mud or icy patches, making some sections more challenging.
Yes, the area is well-equipped with amenities. You'll find plenty of horeca (food and drink establishments) along the route, especially in villages like Lage Vuursche, which is known for its Pancake restaurants in Lage Vuursche. These spots are convenient for breaks and refreshments.
The terrain is quite varied, offering a diverse experience. You'll encounter unpaved paths across heathland, single trails, and mud paths within the forest. While primarily gravel, there are also some asphalt sections. The Utrechtse Heuvelrug area features rolling hills and a mix of wood tracks and paved roads.
Yes, this route intersects with several other trails. You'll find yourself on sections of the Koninklijke Weg, the NAP-route - 07 - Spakenburg - Utrecht, and the MTB-route Soest. Other intersecting paths include the Trekvogelpad - 10, Willibrorduswandelpad, and the MTB-route Hoge Vuursche, among others.
While Buiten in de Kuil is a popular starting point, direct public transport connections might be limited. It's advisable to check current bus schedules to nearby towns like Baarn or Hilversum, and then consider a short taxi ride or cycling the remaining distance. Planning your journey in advance using public transport planners is recommended.

Beautiful round of GravelrideCc together with Andre. The left loop towards Hollandsche Rading goes over Asphalt. I found a less interesting part of the route myself.
Gravel cc route slightly converted. Beautiful route. I think if you take this as a basis and change a few parts, this will be a very very beautiful one!
Route from 2 weeks ago reversed! There are quite a few asphalt strips. But it remains a beautiful route
