Grünausee

Highlight • Lake

Lake Grünau is easily accessible and about an hour from the Sulzenau Hut. The clear blue meltwater, dammed by the lateral moraine of the Wilder Freiger, is worth a hike. The climb to the Mairspitze is still worthwhile, but challenging.

Sulzenau Waterfall

Highlight • Waterfall

The Sulzenausee is fed by the Sulzenauferner stream. The Sulzenau Bach stream originates from this lake. With a roaring sound, it rushes past the Sulzenau Hut and plunges 300 meters down to the Sulzenau Alm.

What is the best time of year to hike from Grawa Alm to Lake Grünau?

The best time to hike this trail is typically from late June to early October. During this period, the snow has usually melted, and the weather conditions are most favorable. Always check local weather forecasts and trail conditions before you go, as alpine weather can change rapidly.

Starting from the parking lot at the Grawa-Alm we went to the impressive Grawa waterfall. Several viewing platforms offer a view of this natural spectacle. It then went uphill via the Sulzenau-Alm into a high valley. In the high valley there is a great view of another waterfall, the Sulzenau Hütte is enthroned above and glaciers can be seen behind it - wow, I was really impressed! From the Sulzenau hut we visited 2 more mountain lakes: the Grünauer See and the blue lake. Both very nice and also nice and cold! A nice tour in the best weather!

A truly fantastic tour in the Stubai Valley. The starting point was the Sulzenau Hut car park of the Leipzig section of the German Alpine Club (DAV). On the day of my tour, the hut was opening for the summer season. It started off wonderfully, through the forest, accompanied by rushing mountain water, until I reached a very impressive plateau, framed by high cliffs, with the hut always in view. After a delicious meal and drink at the hut, I set off for the summit of the Mairspitze at 2,781 m. During the ascent, you reach a beautiful place called Blaue Lacke (see pictures). I don't know how many times I had to stop; it was so beautiful, the scenery all around, and the weather was great too. A further ascent from the lake to the Mairspitze involved one or two small rope safety measures and a bit of scrambling in places, but it was well within reach. At the top, there were fantastic views of the Stubai Glacier. I was at the summit for just under 1.5 hours; with the weather and the long days, I found it hard to decide to descend. The descent was the same as the outward journey, with a quick refueling stop at the Sulzenauhütte and then back without interruption and with heavy legs.

Starting point Nürnberger Hütte, after a balanced breakfast the ascent to the so-called Niederl at 2680m with a bench and cross began. From there the descent (black) to the Sulzenauhütte at 2191m began, the route also includes a breathtaking mountain backdrop with glaciers, beautiful lakes and breathtaking waterfalls.👍👍👍 (The mountain is calling)
