Cycle street along the Außenalster

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

Here, on the Outer Alster, you'll find what is probably the most beautiful cycle path in the world. Here, too, cyclists have the right of way. The Outer Alster was the part of the lake that was "outside" the city walls and was built in 1625. In 1804, the city walls and ramparts were demolished and converted into parks, but the spatial separation between the two lakes was retained. The Outer Alster has an area of 1.64 square kilometers (164 hectares) and is on average only about 2.5 meters deep. There are several consular offices on the banks of the Alster and on Harvestehuder Weg on the west bank, such as the US Consulate General. Due to its proximity to the city center and its recreational qualities, the Outer Alster is home to a number of hotels: Among others, the five-star superior Hotel Atlantic is located on the southeastern bay of the Outer Alster, and the Fontenay on the west bank.

Deutsche Bahn's DB RAD+ app is now available on the way to the train station. The points collected from this app can be redeemed at participating retailers and service providers in the vicinity of the train station. The journeys are recorded anonymously and conclusions can be drawn about bicycle usage. The aim is to incentivize cycling as a feeder to public transport.

January 24, 2025,Bredenbeker Teich-Runde
Still a little under the weather, but still a little ride through the mud in the morning. Beautiful sunshine in the Duvenstedter Brook and the Höltigbaum was also great to ride.
I brought my new Bryton 750SE with me, a real sat nav for once instead of simple breadcrumb guidance. Not bad for now, still 80 percent battery after 4 …

My current favorite route today, the other way around in wonderful winter weather. ❄️
Over the Wandse, Höltigbaum out to Bredenbeker Teich, Duvenstedter Brook and back over the Alsterlauf.
Fully masked when the flu is subsiding and staying strictly in the aerobic zone. ☝️
I don't need to catch pneumonia again, I've had it before, it's not funny...

Waldemar Bonsels found his inspiration around Maya the Bee at Bredenbeker Pond. The family was ill and I wasn't quite fit either, so I set off on a relaxed tour in the footsteps of the famous bee. To find a comparison to the supposedly incomparable atmosphere of Bredenbeker Pond, I included a few other hotspots in the route. Once again, …

Another beautiful variation of my favorite route over Wandse and Alster. The fact that I took the last opportunity to involuntarily dismount from my bike on gravel thanks to a driving error was not really necessary...😑 I guess it was my turn again...😒
