Set in a karst sinkhole on the top of a mountain overlooking the Lanaittu Valley (or Lanaitho), the Nuragic village of Tiscali is one of the most fascinating archaeological treasures of Sardinia. The Tour starts in Sa Barva, a paid secure car park with bar and toilets. However, Tiscali can also be reached from the Oliena area, starting from the Lanaittu Valley. Entrance to the Nuragic village involves a modest fee, which includes a guided tour.
From the car park, cross the Sa Barva bridge and follow the path that runs alongside the Rio Flumineddu. Soon the road turns into a path that climbs up through the Scala 'e Surtana pass.
After reaching a large clearing, the route climbs steeply up to the crest, not far from the entrance to the deep sinkhole that houses the Nuragic village of Tiscali. A vantage point reveals the ancient settlement, located in a spectacular karst formation. In pre-Christian times, this partially covered crater housed homes, warehouses and livestock pens.
Crossing the Tiscali ridge, the views vary slightly but always remain breathtaking, with splendid views over the Lanaittu valley. Leaving the village behind, descend until you return to the Surtana valley you traveled on the outward journey, following the path backwards to the starting car park.
