Hiking

The circular tour along the Schwalberstieg dream trail offers a unique nature experience with picturesque valleys and impressive viewpoints. The hike begins at the Linkemühle in Niederfell and continues along a gently ascending path through the tranquil Aspeler Bach valley. Rippling water, crooked trees, and rugged rocky cliffs shape the landscape here.

The trail continues to the Schwalberhof farm and into the tranquil Schwalberbach valley. The trail leads along expansive fields to the Arkenwälderhof farm, enters a majestic beech forest, and crosses the Aspeler Bach stream through a ford. You then hike through the Niederfeller Forest to the Hitzlay stream, where the Moselle valley lies at your feet. The return to the Moselle valley offers magnificent panoramas, for example, from the observation tower of the Mönch-Felix-Hütte. The Nightingale Trail finally returns you to the starting point.

A tour offered by the Rhine-Moselle-Eifel Tourist Board.

Hitzlay Viewpoint (Moselle Valley)

Highlight • Viewpoint

A fantastic view down to the Moselle, to the barrage, and across to the other bank. A place to linger and linger. I think this is the best view on the Schwalbersteig trail.

July 29, 2023, Traumpfad Schwalbersteig 🤩29.07.2023

On the way back from Cologne after the morning rain, I ventured a detour to Niederfell and hiked the beautiful Schwalbersteig. A really very nice, varied round. It goes over paths through beautiful brook valleys, along the edge of the forest and many giant trees, over open areas with a wonderful view. Highlights are the Aspelerbach and Schwalberbach valleys, the beautiful Röder chapel, the Moselle viewpoints at Hitzlay with a view of the lock and the "Mönch-Felix-Hütte" lookout tower.

Nice tour, especially recommended in summer, as long stretches go through the forest.

Since I added the photos from the camera and cell phone later - they are "a bit" mixed up......"but" to get an impression of the tour - that works too :):):)

Dream path Schwalberstieg with some modifications. Great view of the Moselle valley Personal rating 8.5 out of 10 points

After yesterday's rains, the forest was damp, but the paths were not slippery. You could really "smell" the forest. We almost felt like we were in the jungle on the narrow single trail. The birds chirped and the brook murmured. Shortly before the Schwalberhof, the "jungle path" came to a wide gravel forest path. On such paths, it was then about 3.5 km to the Arkenwälderhof, where it then went back to a single trail. But the joy didn't last long, because the "Traumpfad" ran along the Aspeler Bach for about a kilometer on a tarred road. Then we went left to cross the Aspeler Bach over stepping stones and then steadily uphill out of the valley. Here then slowly came some distant views of the Moselle valley. And beautiful viewpoints.

Today had to be bought. I had actually discovered a village butcher in Oberfell and was expecting a lot of home-made stuff. That's how it is...

Another wonderful round next to the Moselle. The Schwalberstieg is a very varied route with field and meadow paths, very beautiful viewpoints of the Moselle, wonderfully rustic paths through forests and along babbling streams. 🌄 The section along the Schwalberbach was my personal favorite. It was a lot of fun again. Great round.

Our dream path today had a lot to offer us: sun, blue sky, rippling water, wonderful autumn colours on the deciduous trees, raining leaves and lots of small forest paths. Panoramic views over the fields and then the beautiful view of the Moselle.
