This route was planned by komoot.
A beautiful hike with very challenging climbs and descents. Sturdy shoes recommended. The great views and landscapes "compensate" for the effort. The hiking time recorded by Komot is not correct, however! We hiked for about 5 1/4 hours and were on the road for 6.5 hours including a visit to Thurant Castle. Very, very worthwhile 🤩.
Alken is the name of a small wine village on the Moselle. Komoot had something against it and didn't want to navigate, didn't want to show me the tour that I had previously borrowed from a Komoot user, only wanted to record a new tour, nothing else and after several attempts to get to the saved tour, canceling, deleting, restarting the phone, etc., Komoot took pity on me. A paper map, that would be something, back to the roots.... What was life like before all this power-guzzling, digital, simplifying complication.... It went steeply up the vineyards on narrow gravel paths. Wonderful views in even more wonderful weather. Sweating was the order of the day, perhaps the last gift of the summer.... Moselsteig and Traumpfad, a pleasure to walk. The elevation gain was mean, the steep climbs were only in two places, and the last one seemed to never end... A group of female hikers who had just completed the climb down felt they had to warn me that it was bad, hell, "don't do that" etc. What was so bad, I asked, "well, the one and a half kilometers of narrow, steep gravel path, of course." But there was a nice group of men at the top who would definitely help me... Huh? 🤨 shamelessly patronized at the start of the climb. What was that... and the women were a lot younger than... 🤔 Well, I had to endure being overtaken by a young couple who were still chatting to each other. That's the way of life, after all I got to the top, just a little later 😅 Throughout the whole tour I noticed a signpost that said "Helmut's Oak". I kept reading Helmut's Oak, Helmut's Oak, in my mind it became my mantra, when is Helmut's Oak finally coming... Oh Helmut's Oak, etc. and just before the end in a wooded area I passed Helmut's Oak, almost. Thank God the sign on Helmut's Oak was big enough...😅 Past Thurant Castle, down narrow, steep gravel paths through the vineyards, sticks might have been appropriate here, I passed St. Michael's Chapel and ossuary, it wasn't that far for me 😅 back to the small, now well-visited Alken, where every small vineyard was well-visited and a corresponding "old car" was waiting for the ride home. The average age of the restaurant visitors was considerably higher than hers, and at some point, but not yet, I will be one of them and am happy to be able to sit in this beautiful setting.... A beautiful hike, with great views, the special atmosphere of the Mosel and the rugged vineyards. Simply wonderful, no matter what age! Komoot has probably just gone demented, the pictures are mixed up, only God knows why 😉
Very nice dream bow whose name doesn't promise too much! Challenging climbs to fantastic views. In between wider paths, but especially at the end beautiful rocky paths and views of the Moselle. It is worth planning time for a stay at Thurant Castle. The castle is in very good condition and you sit in cozy niches. At the same time, the site is very clear, so that it cannot be overcrowded. Even on Easter Sunday with glorious weather it wasn't crowded. There are small dishes and drinks. Definitely one of the most beautiful dream loops on the Moselle! : )
Today we hiked our 2nd dream path 🎒🥾, the Bleidenberger views tour. We started in Oberfell at the church ⛪️ (parking lot 🅿️ at the kindergarten without time limit). And there 😳 we didn't suspect what was coming. The first kilometer went through a vineyard slope ↗️ which brought us to a decent temperature 🥵. The second kilometer also had a few meters of altitude to offer, but not as steep. At the hut on Dickenberg you could recover from the first hardships and enjoy the view 👀 from the forest sofa. Now it went straight for a relatively long time ➡️, whereby you could often look very far into the country and enjoy nature. After crossing the K71, it goes steadily downhill and you reach the unspoilt valley of the Alkener Bach, which rippled in a deep gorge. Past the Helmutseiche 🌳 and the Link Eiche 🌳 it goes uphill again after about 9km. At the end of the ascent, Thurant Castle 🏰 comes into view and invites you to visit it (adults €4.50) and take a break. Leaving the castle again, a narrow path leads over a cliff down to St. Michael's Church in Alken. This path definitely requires sturdy shoes 🥾 and sure-footedness. The following final ascent has it all again!!! After 1km and 150 meters of altitude difference, you can reach the pilgrimage church of Bleidenberg via the Sieben Fußfallen via ferrata. From here, a panorama path continues, which again and again offers great views of Thurant Castle and the Moselle downhill back to Oberfell. Conclusion: It was another strenuous tour, but it also has a lot to offer. PS Pictures 1 to 23 belong at the end, my cell phone went on strike 😠 and didn't want to take any more pictures!
The name is program! Magnificent panoramic views of the Moselle valley, mighty rock faces with a deep canyon, on the traces of an old vineyard path to the medieval Thurant Castle and the Bleidenberg pilgrimage church. The tour starts at the church in Oberfell. After climbing a vine-covered slope, there are great views of the Moselle. Going further uphill, there are wonderful panoramic views of the Vordereifel. Through green forests and blooming meadows, the hiker gets to the hut on Dickenberg, which invites you to take a leisurely rest with the best view. After a few kilometers over soft meadow paths, the path crosses the K71 and reaches the unspoilt valley of the Alkener Bach. The geological history of the region comes to life in deep canyons and old quarries. Along the murmuring Alkener Bach, past the imposing Helmutseiche, the hiker reaches an easy ascent through beautiful mixed forest, which is rewarded with impressive views. Once at the top, Thurant Castle comes into view and invites you to take a trip into the Middle Ages. A narrow path leads over a cliff to the historic St. Michael's Church and the pretty wine village of Alken. Striding through the time-honored city gate, hikers reach the Sieben Fußfallen via ferrata, which takes them up the vine-covered slopes of the Moselle. There is a magnificent view from the Bleidenberg. The nearby pilgrimage church at Bleidenberg is also worth a visit. The final descent along the panorama trail offers fantastic views of the Moselle valley and Thurant Castle before the hike ends in Oberfell.
https://www.traumpfade.info/pfad/traumpfad/bleidenberger-ausblicke/ Our absolute recommendation. Like the other Dream Trail loops, this one truly deserves the name "Dream Trail." From the designated hiking parking lot, it's just a 25-meter walk before the enthusiastic hiker turns onto a small, narrow vineyard path that immediately packs a punch. The 1,000 meters of elevation gain along the Moselle River are reached quickly and easily. This little path winds its way up to the highest point of this loop, the Dickeberger Hill, offering magnificent views. A bench is available here for relaxing. The trail continues across wide fields, always with potential vistas, all the way to the Alkener Bach Gorge. Another idyllic region with small paths and stream gorges. After this valley, however, comes the truly impressive trail. From about kilometer 9 onwards, we hike exclusively along hillsides with views of the Moselle River, leading to several highlights such as Thurant Castle. Unfortunately, it's only open from March 7th; we unknowingly arrived a week too early. There, we took a break and admired the Moselle. The vineyards stretch as far as the eye can see, and the weather was perfect for us. We continued on narrow paths and again climbed steeply up to the St. Michael's Chapel with its ossuary 💀 where you can view skulls. The final stretch was again along paths to the Bleidenberg pilgrimage church and finally to St. Nicholas Church. There are highlights galore here: Thurant Castle, the views of the Moselle, the churches with their ossuaries, and last but not least, the almost exclusively narrow paths on this loop. We highly recommend it. We've rarely seen such beautiful trails and so many highlights. Consequently, this loop was quite busy, especially on the first consistently sunny day of the year. There are also a few places to stop for refreshments along the way, both at the end and along the trail. A dream trail! Have a wonderful Sunday, everyone! 🙋🏻♂️ Dream Trails Collection: https://www.komoot.com/de-de/collection/1286104/-traumpfade-rhein-mosel-und-eifel
