It's slightly misty as I step out of the car in Velp, the veiled sun just rising, quiet only the murmur of the stream beside me and falling leaves. Autumn colors are starting to appear, and I walk lightly to the pond. I haven't changed a bit here since my youth, which pleases me. Eighty years ago, I enjoyed being here again. I was six years old then. By reading a lot, I learned to understand and appreciate nature. A world opened up for me. No more daydreaming, I walked towards the Rozendaalse veld, sandy heathland, and beautiful views. Past the Emma Pyramid, unfortunately closed now; in my time, a wooden tower stood. Further down, a short walk to the Rozendaalse cemetery. It looks a bit desolate, yet there are sometimes flowers; one word is not forgotten. The beautiful castle comes into view and I settle down on the terrace to enjoy coffee and the view. A lovely walk into the past, and I enjoy it.
