Hiking

This dream trail enchants with impressive views and idyllic paths along the Elzbach stream, crowned by the spectacular cultural highlight: Eltz Castle. The starting point is on the Moselle Plateau in the picturesque town of Wierschem. On the way towards Keldung, you'll be treated to breathtaking views of the deeply incised Elzbach Valley and the majestic Pyrmont Castle.

The trail then leads you down into the Elzbach Valley, where the tranquil river landscape and the gentle murmur of the stream create a special atmosphere. Eltz Castle, a true gem among German castles, awaits you – an impressive complex that will transport you back to times gone by and also offers a fantastic vantage point.

For a relaxing break, stop at the Ringelsteiner Mill before hiking up a steep climb back to the Moselle Plateau and finally to Wierschem.

A tour offered by the Rhine-Moselle-Eifel Tourist Board.

Eltz Castle

Highlight • Castle

Castle Eltz towers like a fairytale castle on a 129 meter high hill in the valley of Elz, a small tributary of the Moselle, which flows around the castle from three sides. The castle had been "lucky" in the course of its history: it could never be conquered by force and was already tended by the owner in the 19th century, cared for and restored for a lot of money, so that today it still stands really well. By the way, for more than 800 years she has been in the possession of the family von and to Eltz-Kempenich, who is committed to ensuring that the castle is maintained and made accessible to the public in the future. In the summer months you can visit the castle. However, you can not drive up to the castle - the steep, small way there you prefer to attack on foot.

Eltz Castle is open from April 1st, 2023. The hiking car park is subject to a fee. 3 euros and then for 1 day. Very slippery at the moment, muddy path, would wait until the ground is drier again. The dream path is very nice, had 2 large dogs with me who also had their fun. Drinks offered at the Eltzbach.

🏁from the large hiking car park in Wierschem🧭. 🪙Day ticket 3€. The path to Eltz Castle leads, among other things, through the romantic Elztal.🌊💙 The Elz runs in large loops. Sometimes wider, narrower, stormier with small rapids, sometimes deeper to the path or higher. The hiking trail is sometimes a rocky path, then a root path, a hollow path between rocks, sometimes wider, sometimes more mossy.🥾🥾 🏰Eltz Castle is a hilltop castle from the 12th century. It lies at 129 m above sea level. NHN in the Elz valley🌊. With its eight residential towers up to 35 meters high, its bay windows, roofs, half-timbering and spiers, it is the epitome of a knight's castle for the spontaneous observer.⚔️ It sits majestically in a side valley of the Moselle near Mayen. This impressive sight even adorned the 500 DM note for several decades. 🏰https://www.eifel.info/wandern/wanderwege/a-traumpfade-eltzer-burgpanorama 🏰https://burg-eltz.de/de/startseite https://youtu.be/qGgMufX91fw?si=pn9rOGbEdA5iarD_

The last tour this year took me from our long-time New Year's Eve quarters "Schmausemühle" to Eltz Castle. From Moselkern we went over the dream loop through Elztal to Eltz Castle, then over the Eastern Eifel heights to Wieschem and from there back down into the Elztal. After all the rainy last few weeks, it was another wonderful tour at the end🥾🥾👍👍. Wish all Komootlers a happy new year, good health and nice tours in 2024🍀🍀🙋🙋

Our tour on the Eltz Castle Panorama dream trail began in the picturesque Elzbach valley, where we hiked through dense forests. Suddenly, completely unexpectedly, around a bend, we were presented with a breathtaking view of the fairytale Eltz Castle, which immediately captivated us. This castle had been on my to-do list for a long time, so we couldn't pass up a thorough tour. However, I must say that the visit was a bit tiring. As a visitor, you are literally pushed through the castle, as the interior is only accessible as part of guided tours. These take place every ten minutes and the groups are so large that you hardly have space to explore the rooms in peace. Unfortunately, there is also little time to really take in the charm of the castle, as the next group is often already at the door. I thought that was a real shame. After visiting the castle, we continued on our way and were once again able to enjoy beautiful views of the picturesque Eltz. The way back took us along idyllic forest paths and across gentle meadows and fields until we finally arrived back at the starting point. It was a wonderful day that gave us many impressive experiences. It was not without reason that this path was Germany's most beautiful hiking trail in 2013.

Fantastic start to September. 😍😎 Burg Eltz - 12 euros entry and totally overcrowded 🙈. As a damsel I would have to wear a mask 😷, so I'd rather keep walking 🥾🥾. 😅

Heyho 👋🏽 Yesterday we decided at short notice to spend a long weekend on the Moselle. 🥾🎒 Today was the arrival and it was obvious to do a tour. We decided on the dream path: Eltz Castle Panorama 🏰 A very nice, varied tour through forests 🌳, over fields, along streams and over bridges to the overcrowded Eltz Castle, which we quickly left behind. Apart from the fact that you had to queue for 1-1.5 hours, entry also cost €12 even if you only wanted to have a drink at the tavern. 😡 This is harsh and outrageous! At the end of the castle path, about halfway there was a great stop, which we then used. Now we have arrived at the hotel (Doctor Weinstube - Bernkastel Kues) and are enjoying the evening 🍷🥂 Tomorrow there will be a tour on the doorstep. VG ✌🏽

Fortunately, taste is different. I didn't really need this dream path. The path was well populated despite Monday (okay between the years). Right next to the castle. Sticks are highly recommended.
