This route was planned by komoot.
Very nice, varied path with beautiful paths, always along the Wiese river. Great gorges and water falls. Lonely because the weather was very changeable. Again and again, it was nice.
The start of this gourmet trail is Feldberg Hebehof. First it goes down a beautiful path through a gorge to the Fahler waterfall. Then continue on meadow paths to Todtnau. Here then through the very short but beautiful Wolf Gorge. And now the really strenuous part of the hike begins. All altitude meters romp about on the last two kilometers. First uphill to the impressive Todtnauer waterfalls. And then up narrow, steep stairs to Todtnauberg, the destination of the Wasserfallsteig. Conclusion: Another very nice tour. But I completely underestimated the last part.
The Todtnauer Wasserfallsteig is one of the classics in the Upper Black Forest and a new highlight has recently been added with the new Blackforestline suspension bridge at the Todtnauer waterfalls. A super varied hike :) It starts in Feldberg (place). From there the path goes downhill for a long time. Again and again we have great views down into the valley before we dive into the forest. Along the water we continue on narrow paths, the path often crosses the creek and again and again you come across small waterfalls. The path is super nice and especially pleasant to walk in summer because the water cools the air. At Fahl we then meet the Fahl Waterfalls. So far I only knew it from winter: Snowy and partly frozen - very different from today. From here we go a bit out of the forest and we marvel at the beautiful summer meadows that are in full bloom. We particularly like the next section: a beech forest, the trees of which rise straight up into the sky. I love such bright and light deciduous forests, which are actually rather rare in the Black Forest. We continue to Todtnau, back to civilisation. We haven't met many people so far - we only met two hikers and a man with a dog. Todtnau is the lowest point of the hike: from here it goes up to the Todtnau waterfalls. Strengthened with an ice cream we start the ascent, which initially runs quite steeply over a narrow path with steps. But in company and with good conversations, that's not so wild. We make good progress and suddenly we see the Todtnauer waterfalls splashing out between the trees. And the new Blackforestline suspension bridge! Wow, is it long! It spans the entire valley and looks quite spectacular even from afar. So keep going uphill. We reach the falls and to our amazement there is not as much going on as we expected. The water falls impressively into the depths. We continue in the opposite direction - uphill. From the Todtnauer waterfalls you come directly to the entrance of the new suspension bridge. I have to admit I was skeptical at first - I'm not a big fan of tourist attractions. But in this case I was taught a better one: The bridge is great and the perspective and views of the waterfalls and the valley are really terrific! So far I only know suspension bridges from vacations in other countries, I have never been on a suspension bridge in Germany. And certainly not in the local Black Forest. Stepping onto the bridge felt like I was suddenly far away somewhere in an adventurous place in the world. And at the same time I know: I'm not in Ecuador, in South Africa, no, not even in Switzerland. I'm in the Black Forest, 45 minutes from where I live - and yet it feels so special. Entry to the bridge costs 12 euros and I was curious if it would be worth it. Conclusion: do it. It's really great! At least when there are so few people on the bridge, as was the case today. It's probably a good idea to come during the weekdays so as not to have too many people around. Instead of walking back and forth across the bridge, after crossing it we continue leisurely to Todtnauberg, from where a bus runs back towards Todtnau every hour. There you change trains and drive back to Feldberg to the starting point of the hike. (Or wherever you want to go afterwards.) Conclusion: Varied hike, which mostly runs very lonely in the forest. Along streams and waterfalls, the path meanders first downhill and then uphill to the highlight of the hike - the Todtnau Waterfalls and the Blackforestline. We liked it very much!
After a leisurely breakfast on the terrace in front of our holiday apartment, we head back towards Feldberg by car. Our destination is a parking lot not far from the entrance to the Wasserfallstieg near Todtnau. The path offers a varied nature experience and leads past various waterfalls, which become more and more spectacular as the tour progresses. In Todtnau there is a piece of Black Forest cake. Then, after a challenging ascent, we reach the Todtnau Waterfall (97m), the most spectacular waterfall of the tour. Since Pentecost 2023 there has been another attraction in the immediate vicinity: The Blackforest Line, a 450 m long and 120 m high suspension bridge. The bridge is a spectacular structure that was built in just 9 months. We buy 2 tickets (9€ each) and enjoy the spectacular view from the bridge. Later, after another short hike, we reach the bus stop from which we drive back to our parking lot. https://www.hochschwarzwald.de/touren/geniesserpfad-wasserfallsteig-9069394c27
My last tour of this unforgettable hiking holiday, and I think I couldn't have picked a better one for my (temporary) farewell. Here everything is offered again - of course waterfalls, including the Todtnauer WF, Germany's highest natural waterfall, almost untouched nature (although you walk several times near the road), rest areas that look like a painting, a bit of culture ... The village of Todtnau itself is also worth seeing and there are countless hiking trails that lead here. I walked the Wasserfallsteig from Feldberg Hebelhof to Todtnau, but of course it works the other way around - but then it's more uphill (which can be exhausting, especially in such sunny weather), and on the other hand, at least I found it to be the culmination of this holiday trip to marvel at the Todtnau waterfall at the end of the tour (luckily enough photo time had been factored in.). So I drove back to Titisee, where I took the bus again through the mountains - past Notschrei and Schauinsland, which are at the top of the list for my next visit - where I was looking at this (recommendation, because also especially friendly: Café Seeblick) enjoyed my last ice cream sundae in the Black Forest for the time being. 💙🏞️🥾🌲☀️🐃🐐🌊🐑🌸🐦🦉🦅🌼🦆🌳🦢🌄💚 It was wonderful! The landscape is a dream, and I received so many great tips and help online and offline, or just had nice conversations, that I didn't even have the feeling that I was traveling alone. 🤗 The unbelievable weather was of course the cherry on the top of this Black Forest cake from a hiking trip! 🍰 Thank you & hopefully see you soon!
The premium hiking trail Todtnauer Wasserfallsteig has an adventure score of 85 points. 63% narrow paths and paths. 41% unmade. Today was an absolute top tour with excellent highlights and beautiful passages along the water. Another enrichment is of course the newly opened Blackforestline. Absolute mega highlight. Costs 12€. Day ticket parking fee 10€ at the starting point Hebehof. Since this is a route tour, the buses run every hour from Todtnauberg to Todtnau, so you have to change trains. The bus continues 10 to the starting point. Costs €2.70. But be careful, the bus at 6:10 p.m. does not run on weekdays.
Today was a mega tour. We parked the car in Todtnau. Since the bus to our starting point only went three quarters of an hour later, we strolled through Todtnau. The Catholic Church is really worth seeing. Now the bus always went uphill to Feldberg-Hebelhof, just before Feldberg-Ort. Here we started the descent through the gorge, past many ski slopes and lifts. Again and again we went down the valley over small bridges. Wide views opened up in the direction of Todtnau. Looking back you could see the Feldberg with its tower. The path was a dream. Then we reached the Fahler waterfall, which is very impressive. It continued downhill, meadow paths, paths... everything included. The clouds became more and more menacing and just in time we reached the first houses and a carport to shelter. The thunderstorm was violent with hail... no umbrella would have helped anymore... After the rain stopped I went to a cafe. Axel drove home. I looked at the weather report... sun again, then more thunderstorms. The time window should be enough, I thought, to hike the tour including the Todtnau waterfalls to the end. Let's go! Now it went steadily uphill through meadow orchards, nature trail and forest and then I heard the noise. A huge waterfall opened up... It went up many steps, then a second waterfall. I was in seventh heaven... mega beautiful and the sun was shining directly into the waterfall. Now a little further up and I reached Todtnauberg. A small, beautiful climatic health resort. From there we went to the suspension bridge. This has now been completed. Opening is May 26th... very spectacular you can then walk over the waterfall at a great height. We took the bus back to Todtnau. Just right, because then came a violent, second thunderstorm. I reached my car just dry. That was timing and a wonderful hike.🤩🥰 Sorry for the many photos... I don't want to delete any more!
