Hiking

This scenic circular trail combines the wild beauty of the vineyards and forests with the rolling fields of the Maifeld Plateau, offering an unforgettable hiking experience.

You start at the sports park in Lehmen, from where the trail continues parallel to the village into a wooded nature trail above the Würzlay vineyards. Along alpine paths with numerous, sometimes longer, ascents and descents, you'll find some impressive viewpoints. From the larger viewing plateaus at the end of the trail and at the Ausoniusstein, you can enjoy fantastic views of the Moselle Valley during relaxing breaks before hiking through the Flachsbach Valley and the Ausoniusstein Nature Reserve.

The circular trail now takes you leisurely across the fields of the Maifeld before reaching the Hubertushöhe viewpoint and then returning to the starting point.

Pay attention to the signs during the hike and follow the Moselsteig Seitensprung logo, not the themed trail.

Path Along Dry Stone Walls

Highlight • Trail

In times of mechanized viticulture, professional dry-stone walls like this one are rarely built these days. It's a shame, as they provide optimal conditions for wine and a unique habitat for many rare animals and plants.

A highly recommended hike. A very varied, slightly challenging trail with magnificent views of the Moselle Valley. Sturdy footwear is recommended.

The Ausonius Stone commemorates Decimus Magnus Ausonius, the author of "Mosella," a travelogue from 371 AD about his impressions along the route of the Roman military convoy from Bingen to Trier. It offers a magnificent view, but is unsecured, so please be careful!

From the Hubertushöhe near Lehmen, you have a particularly beautiful view of the Moselle. It's a good rest stop and the surrounding area is very well-kept.

The tour should only be walked in dry weather. Good surefootedness on the climb is required. At the Ausoniussteinhütte, the path continues downhill to the right. The signage wasn't very clear. Therefore, the tour includes a small detour of 300m.

The loop was set off in perfect weather. The three "alpine" kilometers are tough and strenuous, but certainly suitable for beginners. Proper footwear is required. Overall, a nice loop with some highlights. Maybe I'll do the route to Löf sometime. Unfortunately, the benches and signs are not being maintained.

Yesterday we went to the Moselle again after a long time... The decisive factor was that I had seen on the German Hiking Institute's website that there is a newly certified Moselsteig side jump: The Würzlaysteig - or at least part of the 11.3 km long route hike from Lehmen to Löf. Years ago I integrated the entire Würzlaysteig into a longer circuit (https://www.komoot.de/tour/63589415). Now I was curious how the circular hiking trail turns out: It turned out to be a nice round that integrates the most strenuous part of the Würzlaysteig with alpine character in places (I personally liked the gentler part between Kattenes and Löf, which does not belong to the Moselle side jump a little better). . Only the constant noise from the Moselle valley does not suit the narrow, original path above steep vineyards. The view from the Ausoniusstein is definitely the "touristy" highlight of the hike. After a short bend, the way back leads essentially via the Moselhöhenweg. The route is not as spectacular as the way there, but very quiet... The finale is the Moselle view from the Hubertushöhe... Unfortunately, my assumption that one would have invested in the condition of the path as part of the certification and that viewpoints would have been cleared if necessary has not (yet) been confirmed. Right now, for example, the view from the Vierdörfer view is significantly restricted by foliage... Further information on the Moselsteig side jump "Würzlaysteig" can be found at https://www.wanderinstitut.de/premiumwege/rheinland-pfalz/wuerzlaysteig/ Information about the route hike can be found here: https://www.elzerland.de/a-wuerzlaysteig

Unfortunately, my GPS had a few glitches on this sunny carnival Sunday ☀️ Actually, it was a great 10 km route that took us through the Würzlaysteig, which was very strenuous at times. The temperatures today were just right for it. The Moselle was always in view on the left. Some beautiful viewpoints, e.g. on the Bleidenberg, where you could just sit, look and enjoy the sun. Sturdy shoes and surefootedness are definitely required for the climb. There are also information signs at the beginning and end of the climb. We went in the recommended direction. So it was strenuous at first and then back over the ridge, which also had a few ups and downs 🥾 Very nice hike 👍🏼☀️

In very overcast autumn weather, I took on this varied, close-to-home hike with the Münstermaifeld EV (Emerging Sports Club). To allow everyone to participate, I hiked the Würzlaysteig without the trail, using the bypass, but with the Ausoniusstein and beautiful views of the Moselle Valley. Conclusion: a beautiful day in nature and enjoying my hometown.

Beautiful tour. The alpine sections are not easy, though. Caution is advised!
