Hiking

On this flat tour from Murten to Avenches, you can hike in a relaxed and exciting way and immerse yourself in 1,000 years of history. It starts at Murten train station. Before you set off, it is worth taking a tour of the medieval old town and visiting the museum - among other things, the famous battle of 1476 is the subject of the tour.

Then you go to the beautiful shore of Lake Murten. You pass the outdoor pool and reach the Grengspitz with a beautiful rest area by the water. A pile-dwelling settlement once stood here. You hike via the port of Faoug to the Port Plages Avenches campsite. After a last look at the shimmering lake, you turn off to follow the small Eau noire stream.

Your destination is the former capital of Roman Helvetia: Avenches was the capital until the collapse of the Roman Empire in 476 AD. Take enough time to visit the very well-preserved amphitheater and the Roman museum. You can return to Murten by train.

The heart of ancient Helvetia once beat in ancient Aventicum. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aventicum

The start of today's hike was Avenches, which is known for its amphitheater. The path led us to Lake Murten where we enjoyed a delicious lunch in Faoug. Strengthened, we then set off for Murten.
