Gackerstein Summit Cross

Highlight • Summit

It doesn't look like a peak at all, more like a hill. The climb coming from the Hoherodskopf is hardly noticeable. A very beautiful place with a great view of the Hoherodskopf with seating and an information board.

Bench with a view of Busenborn and Hoherodskopf. The former forester and district manager of Breungesheim is honored here. For hikers who don't know Mr. Schäfer, this is simply a lovely place to take a rest.

The name is program. When the weather is nice there is a lot going on. Not overpriced, no service.

https://www.vogelsberg-touristik.de/detail/id=6596af18af38ae88b43f0646 Today we revisited the three-peak tour near Schotten. The Vogelsberg region is a volcanic area, so this stunning landscape is dotted with extinct volcanoes. We started at the Hoherodskopf (763 meters above sea level), where there were still a few snowfields, but mostly wonderful views. After a short time, we reached the Gackerstein at 663 meters above sea level. This is the featured image, with its breathtaking views and icy winds. With such a fantastic view, we sat down on a bench and enjoyed the weather. We continued downhill towards Busenborn and across the fields until we reached the valley. Then came the climb to the Bilstein and then back up to the Hoherodskopf. A fantastic hike with sunshine and beautiful cloud formations. ... Unfortunately, the weather turned a bit overcast towards the end, and the wind was freezing cold. The highlights were definitely the three peaks with their incredible views, some of the little paths through the verdant forests, and the Taufstein Hut on the Hoherodskopf. You should definitely stop there and treat yourself to some delicious food: https://www.taufsteinhuette.de A great hike, highly recommended! Have a wonderful Saturday everyone! 🙋🏻‍♂️

This tour is for our Pele 🐈♥️ This year it is unfortunately difficult for us to celebrate a peaceful Christmas because the day before yesterday we lost our beloved cat Pele without warning after only 5 years. We dedicated this tour to him. https://www.vogelsberg-touristik.de/wandern We chose a special time for this tour because in winter there is always snow on the Hoherodskopf at over 700 meters. We also booked a night in the Taufsteinhütte and enjoyed a great meal in a great apartment. A very nice breakfast in the morning and then we set off on the 14 km long three summit tour. Over the Gackerstein, the Bilstein and the Hoherodskopf in thick snow, today was on the one hand a beautiful tour, but under these circumstances also a sad one. But we want to talk about the beautiful nature and the great views. The snowy nature and the silence that goes with it is a dream, but the views weren't really there today. But that's not a bad thing, everything around makes up for the lack of visibility. Highlights are the three peaks and the great paths, the nature and the challenging climbs. We were denied the views from the peaks, but we've already been on this route in summer and know how beautiful it is. Boris + Doro wish you all a nice Monday, Merry Christmas and peaceful holidays 🙋🏻‍♂️🙋🏼‍♀️ And for you Pele - all the best on your journey, maybe we'll see each other again sometime ♥️

Beautiful path in the Vogelsberg, from the Hoherotskopf 764 m to the summits of Bilstein 665 m, Gackerstein 663 m and Taufstein 773 m 😁

Today the Schotten summit tour was on the agenda again. The starting point of the hike 🥾 was the parking lot 🅿️ at the visitor center on the Hoherodskopf ⛰️. The daily fee 💶 is manageable 5 €. The tour is indicated in the hiking guide 📖 with the level of difficulty moderate, a total of 4️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ HM are supposed to be completed over a length ↔️ of almost 1️⃣4️⃣ km. The surfaces were mostly natural paths and beautiful paths, occasionally there were paved paths or tarred passages. At the start it was fresh 🔟 degrees Celsius 🌡, combined with plenty of fog 🌫, over the course of the lap 🔄 it cleared up significantly 🌤. Thus, the vision was secured and the skyline 🌇 FFM, the Feldberg im Taunus 🏔 and also the Dünsberg ⛰️ behind Giessen could be seen 👀😊. A successful hike 👏🏻. ☝️The photo of the partial sun 🌞 eclipse was taken on the way to the Hoherodskopf 🚙 and has been added.

A tour with wonderful views up to the skyline of Frankfurt. Unfortunately a bit hazy, but still beautiful. The start and finish was the parking lot at the Hoherodskopf. Quiet in the morning and absolutely overcrowded in the afternoon because of the numerous overpriced "family offers". https://www.erlebnisberg-hoherodskopf.de/ Over colorful mountain meadows, trout ponds and wooded areas with thick basalt stones, we sometimes have quite steep climbs behind us. The highlight of the tour is the Bilstein, an impressive, legendary rock cliff with a view of the Rhine-Main region, the Taunus and the Gießener Land. https://www.geopark-vogelsberg.de/vulkanwissen/was-ist-ein-geotop/listenuebersicht/bilstein.html Link to the tour: https://www.vogelsberg-touristik.de/aktiv/wandern/premiumwege/gipfeltour.html#/de/vogelsberg-touristik/default/detail/Tour/t_100161646/gipfeltour-schotten Part of the tour is on the Camino de Santiago.

Great round trip. But it is nicer when the paths are not so muddy and the Hoherodskopf is free of fog.
