Hiking
On this circular tour you will explore the basalt hill on which the town of Amöneburg is perched. Hike uphill and downhill and enjoy the panoramic views of the Amöneburg Basin. The starting point is the car park at the fairground below the castle ruins or at the rest area above the Linda Chapel.
Amöneburg is surrounded by a former town fortification, the old wall of which has largely been preserved. At the beginning you will hike along the arched meadows through a herd of gypsies, where with luck you can watch a snipe foraging for food. The cultural and industrial monument "Brücker Mühle" is an idyllic place for a rest.
In the north of Amöneburg you will pass the pilgrimage destination of the Linda Chapel before you walk in a wide arc into the town and start the climb up to the basalt hill.
Here you can take a detour to the beautiful old town and the castle ruins. On the way down to the car park you can sit down on the Wenigenburg sensory lounger, enjoy the view and reflect on the hike.

"The city of Amöneburg is located on a basalt hilltop that towers over the surrounding basin by a good 150 meters. This promises far-reaching views in all directions. In addition, history and nature come alive on this path. On the tour you can experience nutrient-poor grassland with a grazing project and "vaulted meadows ", a historical form of land use that is now under nature protection. The Lindau chapel, a place of pilgrimage and an old washing place as well as the old town with its castle ruins are witnesses to the eventful history of the Amöneburg. A great circular route, which also has places to stop for refreshments." Source: https://www.wanderinstitut.de/premiumwege/hessen/amanaburchtour/ Beautiful hiking tour, mostly on meadow paths with a few asphalt sections. Very high experience value with two castle ruins (Amöneburg = "Amanaburch" [old German] and Little Castle) and a rare variety of landscapes as well as beautiful views of Amöneburg. Little shade in summer, so bring enough sunscreen and water with you. I really liked the tour - the unfortunately short mountain section is beautiful and I found the meadow paths very pleasant to walk on.
Great and highly recommended premium tour exactly on the transition day from mid-summer October weather to the announced autumnal cold snap with squalls and heavy rain - from which we were (still) completely spared. For better or worse, the predicted “cold” of around 10 degrees will remain with us in the coming days of vacation in the Sauerland (Brilon and the surrounding area). However, the heavy rain area should be almost gone by tomorrow morning and after that, according to the weather report, only changeable weather and isolated showers can be expected in the target area. Hope that turns out to be the case. Anyone who misses the usual flood of pictures from me will have to be patient for another two weeks. until I have worked through everything after the end of vacation :-). Update on December 20th, 2023: I posted the missing pictures a long time ago and wanted to add my usual comments before I make them public. After much hesitation, I've finally given up on that because more than two months have now passed and I simply couldn't bring myself to document the entire vacation (this tour plus 10 others with a total of over 2,000 pictures) - so be it (none rule without exception) 😂.
The view was phenomenal again, and I was very lucky with the weather. https://www.marburg-tourismus.de/wandermaerchen https://www.komoot.de/collection/1963795/-wandern-im-wandermaerchen-burgwald-ederbergland
Altogether nice impressions taken... the largest part of the tour went over the vastness of the fields and unhindered sunshine. While I prefer the shady forest, it was still fun.
Well-maintained, perfectly marked premium hiking trail
One week free, you have to use it! 🐾 With perfect weather, we have now also explored the beautiful Amanaburch tour. Impressive historical buildings, wooded paths around the castle hill, amazing views and lots of animals (cute goats🐐 and sheep 🐑, loud frogs🐸, birds, storks and a huge swarm of wasps... ). Just beautiful right now in spring. 🤩
Pleasant and above all varied tour. Lots of open field but also trails in the forest and around the castle. Well suitable for children but no stroller!
After a long physical failure, this was the first attempt at resuscitation 😅 It shouldn't have been warmer and steeper (yet). How quickly pudding forms in your knees. And until you get your strength back to some extent... Anyway, it was a really nice hike. 😃
