Loop of Capo San Marco

Capo San Marco, the promontory that closes the gulf of Oristano to the north, is an extraordinary place from both a naturalistic and archaeological point of view, thanks to the presence of the site of Tharros, founded by the Phoenicians in the 8th century BC. on a previous nuragic village. The archaeological area is vast and certainly worth a visit. With the combined ticket, you can also explore the Cabras museum, where the giants of Mont'e Prama, statues dating back to the 9th century BC, are exhibited.

Starting from the car park of the ancient city of Tharros, take the small road that passes the ticket office and start climbing towards the panoramic San Giovanni tower, from which you can admire a breathtaking view of the archaeological site and the entire gulf of Oristano. Continue on the path that goes down to a few steps from the beach.

The route winds through the Mediterranean scrub, following the coast until reaching the southern end where the Capo San Marco lighthouse is located. After admiring the view, cross the road and follow the path that runs along the eastern side of the cape, passing the Caletta and continuing along the coast up to the San Marco tower. From here, return to the archaeological area of Tharros and then to the car park.
