Very exposed in parts, not for beginners and with 2 hours already very tight
My new favorite hike in the Axamer Lizum region of Tyrol! 😍If only I'd discovered the Hochtennbodensteig earlier! So beautiful, hey! This hike takes you directly below the "Dolomites of North Tyrol" – the impressive Kalkkögel mountains. The start is at the mountain station of the Birgitzköpfl lift at 2,035 m. Of course, if you want, you can also climb uphill 🤗 From there, you'll head over the Halsl to the plateau below the Schneiderspitze and continue to the Widdersbergsattel. Here, you'll have a fantastic view of the Herzlteich lake. You'll cross two large gravel fields in total, so you should definitely be sure-footed and have a head for heights, with some alpine experience. And then you'll reach my highlight! The Hochtennboden – a vast, almost flat alpine meadow at 2,365 m. If you think you've seen beautiful mountain meadows – wait until you see THESE! It's really crazy that I didn't know about it, because it's just a few minutes away from the Hoadl-Haus. (My tip for a stop, by the way.) From the mountain station there, you can either take the gondola back down or hike back to the parking lot. ℹ️📍 Hochtennbodensteig -> Axamer Lizum, Tyrol🥾 6.5 km | ⬆️ 490 m elevation gain | ⬇️ 220 m elevation gain | ⏱️ approx. 3 h🎯 Difficulty: medium | Surefootedness required (gravel sections!)🚠 Make the return trip with the Hoadlbahn cable car & the ascent with the Birgitzköpfl lift easier 🚗 Getting there: Also easy with public transport! Be sure to save the Hochtennbodensteig! Who would you like to go hiking here with?
@Axamer Lizum: The Hochtennbodensteig is a popular and impressive hike at the foot of the Kalklögel - from the Hoadl-Haus to the Birgitzköpflhaus. The varied trail meanders through the high alpine terrain of the Kalklögel and over idyllic mountain meadows, sometimes climbing moderately, sometimes steeply. In between there are always opportunities to rest or descend. The trail can also be walked in the opposite direction starting from the Birgitzöpfllift mountain station.
