A Tour with impressive views – Roswithaweg through Rodenberg

Hiking

This tour offers you exciting experiences on the Roswithaweg in the southwest of Hanover. With a length of over 17 kilometers and an elevation gain of 320 meters, the hike requires good fitness and experience with longer distances.

The start and end point is in the historic center of Rodenberg, where you can first explore the museum landscape before setting off on the signposted Roswithaweg. After about five kilometers you reach the Teufelsbrücke forest restaurant - ideal for a refreshment before continuing up to the Kreuzbuche, the highest point on the route.

The route takes you through dense forests and offers impressive views. The descent along the Feggendorfer Stolln, where you can book guided tours in advance, rounds off the tour. If your explorer instinct hasn't had enough here, a detour to the Blumenhagen forester's house and Schwedesdorf Castle is worthwhile.

Diverse landscapes and fantastic panoramic views accompany you on the last few kilometers - and once you're back in Rodenberg, you have numerous opportunities to reward yourself with an ice-cold drink and a well-deserved meal.

Rodenberg Castle and Open-Air Museum

Highlight • Castle

The open-air museum is located on the site of the former Rodenberg Castle, which was later converted into a palace. This "museum island" is surrounded by a moat and houses the Ständehaus, the only surviving building of the old palace, which was badly damaged by fire in 1859. In the Ständehaus there is an exciting exhibition to discover that brings the history of the region to life.

Devil's Bridge Forest Inn

Highlight • Restaurant

For almost one hundred years the restaurant "Teufelsbrücke" near Rodenberg has been attracting recreation seekers. According to legend, in this narrow ravine Satan had helped the hunter Dagobert recover a hunted deer. When the man later bragged about his experiences with friends, he exclaimed, "The devil should fetch me, if that is not true." And promptly, the man vanished through the open window under firelight and hisses. A chapel in the small room under the platform is reminiscent of a refuge already built in 1889.
Quaint, small trip local.

Kreuzbuche Memorial and Shelter

Highlight • Monument

In addition to the cross, there is a spacious shelter at this intersection in case of rain and a bench for picnicking and watching who crosses the path.

Experience mining up close. With a helmet, miner's lamp and weather lamp. You can touch everything and try it out for yourself. Guided tours and "taster shifts" can be booked on the Feggendorfer Stolln website. Great fun for all ages. 😉👍🏼
