Hiking
Before starting the hike, take a few moments to discover Utelle. Perched on a ridge at the confluence of the Var and the Vésubie, this medieval village is located at the top of a steep slope covered in olive trees.
Its stepped streets and alleys reveal old stone houses, ancient doors, fountains and pointed arches. A small path goes around the village and offers a panoramic view of the peaks of Haute Vésubie.
The hike begins on part of the “Gorges de la Vésubie” route. After a few minutes of walking, you leave this path to climb a steep climb which leads to the Col d'Ambellarte.
Halfway up the climb, you take the “Madone d’Utelle” path towards your objective. Before reaching the sanctuary, the route offers a detour via the Madone d'Utelle belvedere, offering panoramic views of the Mercantour. A few steps away is the sanctuary of the same name, a place of pilgrimage. A gradual descent brings you back to Utelle, where you can continue to explore the village streets.
