On this varied 60-kilometer round trip, you will explore the northern Harz foothills. You will pass through the towns of Halberstadt and Blankenburg and will also master the odd climb.
You start in Wernigerode, which lies below the Brocken and promises an excellent start with its old half-timbered houses and medieval town hall. First, it goes downhill along the Holtemme until you reach Halberstadt.
It is worth taking a detour to the cathedral or one of the cafés on the market square.
Then you head up to the nature reserve on the Ziegenberg. You master a tough climb and are then rewarded with a fantastic view. You roll through the forest to the shelter at the Eisengarten, where you can treat yourself to a short break before heading back to Wernigerode. You can end the tour in the oldest ice cream parlor in the city and reflect on a beautiful day on the bike.

The tour is quite demanding in terms of stamina and the condition of the route and we were once again happy that we were on the road with mountain bikes. Especially in the second half, the signage is patchy, and we were glad that …
