This route was planned by komoot.
This route has been on our to-cycle list for a long time. Today we started, from Jeßnitz and from there first to the right/eastern outflow of the Fuhne (over the Spittelwasser into the Mulde). The paths led mostly over field, forest and single trails, sometimes on bike paths and smaller roads. An unwelcome incident forced us to make a repair after about 11 km. Petra's luggage net had "eaten" the sprocket on the rear wheel, completely blocking the gears and the freewheel. The net, more precisely the shredded remains, had to be surgically removed by us with the rear wheel removed. After about 20 km we reached the source of the Fuhne near Zehbitz. From here, a second ditch flows in the direction of the Saale. Hence the name "bifurcation", in short: One source, two rivers. We now followed the western Fuhne to the Saale. I would describe the route as the most varied route that we have cycled so far. Fields, meadows, meadows and a few villages... The GPS information: 73.7 kilometers and 379 meters in altitude.
What a great bike path along the Fuhne. Today we took the train in the direction of Jeßnitz to the mouth of the Fuhne and then always along the Fuhne to the other mouth of the Fuhne. It is a special river with a bifurcation. It is very rare worldwide. The source is near Zörbig and a short time later the Fuhne divides at the watershed, the eastern part flows into the Mulde and the western part into the Saale. The cycle path is very varied and very rarely runs along the road, a lot on dirt roads, through sleepy, beautiful or also dilapidated villages, past many churches, sometimes on a ridge path with a great view of the Petersberg or through the beautiful Fuhneaue. All together a beautiful cycle path that I can really only recommend. It is also pretty well signposted. We then went back from Bernburg by train to Halle.🚲👍
