Wooden Staircase to Purtschellerhaus

Highlight • Structure

A small part of the path to the Purtscheller house. There are about 580 steps. These lead across a muddy cow pasture, so the shoes stay clean and dry.

Purtschellerhaus

Highlight • Mountain Hut

Beautiful house with a great view of the state border. You can choose whether you want to enjoy your summit beer in Bavaria or Austria. 😃

2.65 km

At the end of the actual hiking trail (the climbing path continues in the direction of Hoher Göll) there is a beautiful place to enjoy this beautiful landscape. About 20 minutes from the Purtschellerhaus, sure-footedness and sturdy shoes are required.

Shady Rest Spot at Rocky Outcrop

Highlight • Viewpoint

Here you can take a short break in the shade, protected from the wind. There is enough space to let other hikers pass.

Hoher Göll summit cross

Highlight • Summit

One of the most beautiful summit crosses in the Alps. Difficult to reach, you should plan around six hours for the ascent from Hinterbrand. The view is absolutely great.

Both the Salzburg Way and the German Way are super, super strenuous, but worth it. German Way up, Salzburg Way down - that would be my tip.

Very nice hike with climbing. I had my via ferrata set with me to be on the safe side. Depending on which way you go (via chimney or Schustersteig) you should have it with you.
