Due to the location and the great view of the lake, it gets very crowded when the weather is nice. But the staff is quick and always friendly.

May 23, 2024, Schwalbenwand Steig – Schwalbenwand Gipfelkreuz 🥳

Climbing a mountain triggers strong emotions. But it is important to have a sense of your own strengths. Once you have arrived, all you have to do is enjoy the breathtaking landscape with all your senses and let time stand still for a moment.

Today to the Schwalbenwand via three summit crosses. And fortunately nothing surprised by a rain shower for long.

Nice tour for experienced hiking families (without prams!), technically not particularly demanding, no special equipment necessary. Great view of Zell and the lake. A detour to the Schönwiesalm is a must!

Beautiful, easy tour with three summit crosses, views of Lake Zell, Kitzsteinhorn, Hochkönig, Saalfelden... Start and finish is at the Mitterberghof hiking car park. Be sure to take coins with you for the parking ticket machine.

We started at the Mitterberg Inn. The ride up to the inn was the first challenge for me, a Central European 😱 From Mitterberg, we hiked up forest paths to the tree line and continued across alpine meadows to the Schwalbenwand at 2000 m. Up there, we welcomed the first snowfall of 2025/2026 ☃️ We reached the third summit, Schönwieskopf, via the ridge of the Schwalbenwand, and then descended from there. After a stop for coffee and curd strudel, we headed back to the hotel. Tomorrow, a leisurely hike, and then on Friday, the highlight of the hiking week.
