It starts at the train station in the city of Brixen, whose cultural highlights you should visit right at the beginning. Then you get on the saddle and cycle to Klausen, accompanied by the Eisack. Visit the Eisacktal winery, the city museum or the Säben monastery before you reach Waidbruck with a view of the Trostburg.

On your way to Bolzano you will change the banks of the Eisack several times on bridges with great views. In the capital of South Tyrol, the Ötzi Museum, the Museion, Maretsch Castle, the cathedral, Waltherplatz, the fruit market, the arcades and the Talferpromenade invite you to visit. A little further north, this wonderful bike tour ends at Runkelstein Castle, high above the Talfer River.

Parish Church of St. Andrew in Klausen

Highlight • Religious Site

In the 8th century, an early medieval hall church stood on the site of the parish church. When Klausen was founded in the 13th century, a larger Romanesque church was built. Today's late Gothic hall church was built between 1435 and 1506. In the 18th century the architectural style was adapted to the times. The Baroque style found its way into the parish church.
Particularly worth mentioning are the high altar by Benedikt Faistenberger and Veit Rabl (1661 – 1663) and the coppersmith tomb on the north side of the church.

The Cathedral of the Assumption of Mary with its striking tower is the landmark of the South Tyrolean capital of Bolzano. Since 1964, the parish church of Bolzano has also been the bishop's church and co-cathedral of the then newly created diocese of Bolzano-Brixen, although the cathedral chapter remained in Brixen.

Piazza Walther is the center of Bolzano. Various markets take place here throughout the year, including the famous Christmas market. In the center of the square is the statue of Walther von der Vogelweide (c. 1170 – c. 1230), the poet and composer. After the annexation of Alto Adige, the square was named King Vittorio Emanuele III and the statue of the poet was removed. But after the Second World War the statue was repositioned and the original name returned.

Rainer's Rad & Wandertouren
September 5, 2021, 2021-09-05 Radtour … - Tag 1 - Von Brixen - Meran

Yesterday we drove to Bressanone by car, from where we start our bike tour in South Tyrol Brixen: Brixen in the Eisack Valley is considered to be the oldest town in Tyrol. It is nestled between Rienz and Eisack, surrounded by wide chestnut groves, apple orchards and vineyards. Even for those less interested in art and culture, a stroll through the narrow streets, past the neat town houses, the Hofburg and over the narrow bridges is worthwhile. Because Brixen is also a small shopping paradise. The surroundings of Bressanone also have a lot to offer in terms of landscape: All around are numerous chestnut groves, fruit crops and vineyards, which make Törggelen one of the most important activities in autumn. Day 1: Bressanone - Bolzano Today we went to Bozen on very good bike paths along the Eisack in great sunshine. More information about the individual stations under my collection: Bike tour South Tyrol Brixen-Bozen-Meran Innsbruck-Brixen

The capital of South Tyrol, Bolzano, rightly bears the title of "bicycle-friendly city". On beautiful and safe bike paths through the city park we reach the old town and start - finally - our city tour. Absolutely worth seeing! But today is Sunday and a long procession is going through the city to the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. Religion seems to be of significantly greater importance in South Tyrol. The Talfer flows into the Eisack here, which we follow today to Brixen. A wonderful route on an old railway line, through numerous tunnels and a varied Eisacktal, sometimes almost scary narrow! Beautiful villages such as Atzwang or Kollmann - and the picturesque Klausen as a highlight on the route. Here we meet two nice English guys over strawberry ice cream and start a nice conversation. The older of the two, a retired headmaster, has been cycling in the Alps for 50 years - and now, at the age of 80, for the first time with an e-bike! Respect! We are enthusiastic about today's destination in Brixen. Before something burns, there is a beautiful city tour with the very best mountain panoramas immediately! A last steep climb and our overnight inn with "beautiful view" in the name is reached. For us today the most beautiful place in the world, in the Waldheim Belvedere beer garden with a view of the city....

Day 1: Here we are again. From Brixen to Bolzano. Today in bright sunshine a very easy first stage. From tomorrow the tour will be new territory for us.

And how did the bike4peace journey continue today? Our bikes roll down the valley along the Eisack on an almost perfect cycle highway. What was once used by the railway is now used by bicycles! Very fine! What do you hear and see on the journey? The wind roars loudly through the wind tunnel of the valley! The cars of the SS22 almost drown out the wind. And the trucks lined up in a column are humming down from the highway! So much traffic jam and still no political will to load the freight onto the train!? We drove past the (eternal) construction site of the Brenner Base Tunnel. In Klausen, Emma and Georg told us about the life and work of the Anabaptists and Hutterites. Anabaptists come from Switzerland, Jakob and Katharina Hutter from the Puster Valley build a large and lively community that is based on Christian motifs from the time of the early church. Community, common property as a concern that everyone has enough to live on, clear pacifist attitude with rejection of military conflicts and refusal of military service. This peaceful attitude was probably too great a challenge for the powerful of the time. Expulsion and killing were the result. Today, descendants live according to similar principles in Ukraine, the USA and Canada. Ultimately we end up in front of the Cathedral of Bolzano where we stand in front of the memorial altar for Sel. Josef Mayr-Nusser singing together. A song alternating, one verse in German, one in Italian. Convivenzia! Mayr-Nusser became a victim of the Nazi regime because his peace-oriented attitude made him refuse to take the SS oath. At the Gasthof Zur Schwarzen Katze we shower the sweat off our bodies!

Easy tour always uphill on a well-developed bike path

On great cycle paths through a beautiful landscape, you can hardly get better than this 2nd stage!

A great bike path along the old railway line. Rolling around without draining the battery. My first city bike tour of 2025. A few pictures of Oberbozen are included. I deliberately didn't include the 🚡. Thanks to shopping, unfortunately, I didn't have enough time for the earth pyramids. Oh well, you have to set priorities, and that's another reason to come back.

Translated by Google

Again, the bike paths are good. The route itself offers little variety, with some parts of the bike path located between the motorway, road, and railway.
