This route was planned by komoot.
The hike, which is marked with the white triangle and the number 13, leads from Bensberg to Vilkerath, or the other way around, as we did today. After the approximately one-hour journey by bus, we set off in Vilkerath. At first we went in the wrong direction, because the white triangle with the #5 also starts in Vilkerath and because I had selected the wrong tour in komoot, I was very confused at first. But it quickly cleared up and then the mountain and valley tour started with the first steep climb. The first half of the tour in particular is really sweaty 😰 but that's the most fun 🙃 Up to St. Georghausen Castle, the route was completely new to me, but after that a lot of it seemed familiar from various circular routes. But apart from one section where you had to walk on the busy road, it's a really nice tour. The asphalt portion is higher than I actually like, but I was aware of this beforehand and it's not such a bad thing for autumn days 😄 The signage is not bad, but it doesn't always match the GPX data that I downloaded from the Cologne Eifel Association (https://www.koelner-eifelverein.de/unsere-wanderwege/) and also not with the data on the hiking trail map stored on komoot. Apart from one place in Oberbörsch, we got along quite well. There were only "erased" markings to be seen. There was not a single hiking sign on the path on the komoot map, but that was only a few uncertain kilometers. Otherwise a beautiful hiking trail that has another old castle to offer in addition to St. Georghausen Castle. 🤭 If you like walking through villages, you'll get your money's worth here. But there is also forest and a few small, beautiful paths. Nice mix 🙂
