With the Ticino ticket we took the train 🚄 to Lugano. First we went through the city and park to the valley station of the train on Monte Brè. From there, signposted paths lead along the lake to Gandria. The path leads away from the road on small paths with great views over the lake. Gandria is a small, original village with no car traffic.
When you get off the train, you have a magnificent view of Lugano, the lake and the mountains. The Cathedral of S. Lorenzo, which you automatically pass, is well worth seeing with its old frescoes and an artistic tabernacle. We continue to the Parco Civico, where you always have to take a photo of the gate to the lake (highlight). Many steps lead to Castagnola, where the "Sentiero di Gandria" (40 minutes there) begins. A beautiful lakeside path to the former fishing village of Gandria. Narrow streets and stairs characterize the place. Until 1935, the place could only be reached via the lake. Then everyone went back to Lugano. We also passed the olive park.
