Ticino Nature Reserve

Highlight • Natural

Very nice section for cyclists and hikers. At this point the Ticino was renatured with the aim of increasing the biodiversity of animals again. Different habitats have been created that offer new homes for fish, insects, birds and other animals. With a little patience you can also watch the animals. A nice place to take a short break and think a little about the role of humanity in nature.

Historic Village of Preonzo

Highlight • Settlement

The village was first mentioned in 1335 as Prevonzo. The place name probably comes from the Latin profundus 'deep' and thus refers to a neighboring deep place or a neighboring eddy or whirlpool of the River Ticino.[1]

In the 14th century Preonzo formed a neighborhood (vicinia) with Moleno. In 1335 it was one of the municipalities of the County of Bellinzona. The Bishop of Como owned basic rights in Preonzo, which he ceded to the Orelli, then Capitanei of Locarno, in 1181. In 1419 they belonged to the Orelli of Claro.

On April 2, 2017, Preonzo joined the municipality of Bellinzona at the same time as the then municipalities of Camorino, Claro, Giubiasco, Gnosca, Gorduno, Gudo, Moleno, Monte Carasso, Pianezzo, Sant'Antonio and Sementina.
