The trail features varied terrain. It begins with a descent to a river at Ponte di Cengio, followed by a steep ascent through a forest. What are the main points of interest along the route?

Where can I park to access the trailhead?

Are there any places to eat or stay overnight along the route?

Yes, the Capanna Cava (Cava Hut) serves as a cozy base for hikers. It offers food, including pizza made in a real oven, and accommodation. It's usually open from mid-June to the end of September.

What kind of views can I expect on the trail?

The trail offers magnificent panoramic views. You'll see expansive vistas of the Blenio Valley and the lower part of Val Pontirone. As you climb higher, you'll get glimpses of surrounding mountains like Fontana, Sgioranch, Tecc Neu, and Mazzorino, with the impressive Torent Alto dominating the skyline near the hut.

Does the trail intersect other well-known paths?

Is there a way to shorten or modify the hike?

What should I pack for this hike?

Given the trail's 'difficult' grading and varied terrain, pack sturdy hiking boots, layers of clothing suitable for changing mountain weather, rain gear, plenty of water, snacks, and sun protection. A map or GPS device is also recommended. If planning to stay overnight, bring appropriate sleeping gear for the hut.

Trail Reviews

Jürgen T
August 21, 2021, Biborgh>Alpe di Cava

The access to Biborgh via road 2.3m wide. The trail itself is a passable route, car traffic is possible. Catering from the butcher's Walk / Sauldorf; Perfect. No internet in the hut. It was a short night, because the UTOE section Biasca unfortunately dominated everything for a long and loud time. The iron and steel industry cannot do anything about that. Descent the next morning. The marked hiking trail is at least partially a bit tricky to walk and accordingly steeper. Hut owners very nice, Francesco (son) speaks school German. Otherwise, of course, Italian in Ticino
